'10 MS OT Damien Robinson

CLK has said some strong words on how he likes EEs. I could easily see him hold a few spots and backcount next year. At some point too, especially how we saw at LB this year, we need bodies. It will be a tough call, but we won't have all the info the staff will.

UT doesn't have to hold any scholarships back. They'll have plenty of room. I'm not sure they can fill their allotted 85 scholarship slots with recruited players with the next two classes since they can only sign 28 per year.

UT has had significant attrition and will lose some Srs plus Berry and maybe Rogan. Some have said the attrition isn't done.

The attrition could possibly affect our number of scholarships. Couldnt it?

Not in terms of the limit imposed by the SEC. Our situation applies to the 85 man scholarship limit from the NCAA. Even if we only had 40 guys on scholly's after graduation this year, we could still only sign 28 (not taking into account backcounting EEs).

That was my point. UT is currently down well more than 28 recruited scholarship players when you count the guys who will be out of eligibility, right? Rogan may yet leave and apparently others.

Yep, even with signing our full 28 this class, we will still be well short of 85 scholarship players unless we give some schollys to walkons.

Actually if you do the #'s we'll be fairly close to scholly limit with a full signing class. There was a thread about it at some point...

With all the under classmen that left the team before the season started.....and the other under classmen that left during or after the season was over (vereen, vinson, nuke, edwards etc.) I would be interested in seeing how signing 28 players this year gets us "close" to the 85 limit. What would we have done without all that attrition.....not be able to sign a full class this year or something? Do you have a link to that thread? I searched and couldnt find anything. Thanks!

When I counted the other day we wouldn't be able to sign the full 28 but I think we are close. I think we were at 26?

Even with attrition and without considering the 85 max rule UT can only give out 25 scholarships for 2010. What looks to be good though is UT will probably be able to give that many for 2011. Where schools like UA and UF are not going to be able to with current and past classes maxing out.

Thanks for the info man. So if not for UT's attrition, we would have only been able to sign around 20 prospects this year or something? This scholly limit issue always confuses me.

No we can sign 28...25 only can come...meaning we can sign and place 3. Plus 2-3 kids that are EEs are counted as to last class on paper. So expect 27 or so new faces on next year's team. Next year we will not be allowed to back count I believe as we filled this year's class...so it is just the 25. LWS is the expert here. I believe this is accurate.
85 overall limit is not an issue for us.

Gotcha. What I meant was, without the 15-20 underclassmen that either left the program or were booted since CLK took over, wouldn't we have only been able to sign around 20 guys this spring? I know you gotta factor in SR's graduating as well. If we sign our full 28 for this 2010 class, does that mean we get to count Bray, Milton, Fugate, Thompkins and Simms towards last years class?

It's too much math to worry about.

Just know we can sign 28 players this year (with S&P) and 25 next year (no S&P).

No. IIRC, we enrolled 23 last year, so we can only back count 2 of our new EE's for a total of 25.

So we can enroll 25+2=27 total for 2010, including EE's, and S&P 3 more.

Now that we have him coming for a visit, what are our chances with this guy?

He looks just brutally huge, and the report on Rivals is that he is a guy that could be ready to play right away. OL is a huge need. Is this an E.O. recruit?

So LV your saying that if the staff will take his commitment he is ours? You think they could have someone higher up on their board that they think we can pull?

I think Cullen & Green are ours & we pick up 1 more OL, i just dont know which OL that would be.

I think Coleman is probably ahead of him on the board, possibly Stone. I would guess that Wilson is about the same level as this guy.

how could we go wrong with this guy....he looks like a beast of a OT.....I think he will be a great fit....can we really get him??:hi:

It's crazy just a few months ago some people were freaking about because we werent getting any quality OL & now we look to be in great shape with Cullen & Green & could possibly pick up 1 more quality OL.

DV i see your from Cosby, i live in Newport. Wouldnt happen to know each other would we?

I graduated from Cosby in 2000 and lived here my whole life, so it's possible.

I graduated from CCHS in '06. I use to go up to the Cosby b-ball games a few years ago when they had T. Blakely. I went to elementary school with him at Edgemont.

Right now, I think so. Bama is not pushing for him anymore and I don't think LSU is either. It's just UT and the Miss. schools. Word out of Olive Branch from a couple of people is that he has always liked the Vols and we are his leader...

I think Wilson, Coleman, and Arie are higher on the board for sure. I don't think Stone is jmo...
