'10 OK ATH Demarco Cobbs

Cobbs is most certainly a guy you put out wide. He's not a slot guy. He's direct competition for Prater unless he's playing on the other side of the ball. There's no question about it. He's a physical, strong guy and those are the guys you line up wide.

There's no question a Cobbs commitment would influence Prater. We would already have committed Ambles, Milton, and Cobbs. That is going to affect his decision. There's almost no question about it.

If you think he's going to USC anyway then why are you even arguing with me??? That doesn't make much sense, Eric. And you say if we take Cobbs, Prater isn't coming? Isn't that what I have been trying to say and you have been disagreeing with? You're confusing me this morning.

Cobbs game will most likely be more like Julio Jones and Praters game would be more like AJ Green. I'm not saying either one is nearly as talented, but I think this is what Eric is talking about. Green is more of a speed and finesse guy and Julio is more of a brute strength guy.

If Cobbs commits, it will not effect Prater in the slightest, IMO. He will play opposite of him with Ambles. Milton will be Prater's sub. So Cobbs/Ambles on one side and Prater/Milton on the other side is what I am seeing right now.

To a degree yes, but I'm saying that Cobbs isn't going to compete directly with Prater because they will be opposite of each other and Ambles will be Cobbs direct competition.

We are not going to be starting 4 wide receivers. You're not going to sell a guy on 4 WR sets when all the film of our offense clearly shows that's not a staple.

I don't see how you could sit there and argue that the commitment of a 3rd top WR isn't going to affect the decision of a WR that can go anywhere in the country. It will.

All the WRs compete against each other for playing time.

That's not true Sab. They have depth charts for a reason and they compete for 3-4 spots on that and typically that where they line up. Here's how I see it right now if Prater commits and who we currently have on our team.....

Prater/Milton/Ambles one group on the outside.
Jones/Ambles/Cobbs on the other side.
Richardson/Teague/Rogers as the slot guys.

That's how I see it. Cobbs won't compete with Prater directly, IMO.

Sab, I'm talking about 2 WR positions, not 4. Both of the outside positions.

lane is having the wide receivers only learn one position and route tree, as opposed to the past when they were responsible for all of the wr positions. the competition will be slot receiver vs. slot receiver etc...

Well that's a first for me then. Not sure why top WRs don't commit in the same class, to the same school all the time. Someone should feed them the crap you're feeding me I guess. :) Sorry, Eric. To say that a Cobbs commitment wouldn't affect Prater is just silly. You're not convincing me so I doubt you'd convince him either.

Ok, why would a 6-1 guy effect a 6-5 guy's decision, when the 6-5 can only play really one position and the 6-1 guy has the capability of playing more than one position and it's not just on offense??

They're going to be arguing over the same real estate at some point. And it's not just Cobbs. We can basically add one more receiver this year. We would take a guy like Prater if he would come, but it's never going to happen. You're never going to land Cobbs and then a guy like Prater too after already having two top WRs committed. It won't happen. Prater, Cobbs, Milton and Ambles will all be fighting for one of the two wide out positions. So will Green when he gets here.

How?? Cobbs isn't even in the same league in physicality as Prater. Milton will be competing with Prater, not Cobbs. Ambles would even be more of a threat than Cobbs would.

Cobbs is more physical a WR than Prater! Have you seen both of their film? THey are both outside guys at the next level. You're too hung up on his height. He's not a slot WR.

I really don't know why this is still being discussed. You're basically saying that he's not coming here anyway. It's a fruitless argument if that's the case. What exactly are you defending?

I've watched both, and Prater is MUCH more physical and can go up and get the ball over defenders MUCH easily. That is reality, Cobbs isn't in Prater's league.

Cobbs has better upper-body strength than Prater. He will be a guy that plays on the outside at the next level. He's not a slot guy. I don't see how you could see it any other way.

Are you honestly trying to say that Cobbs would be a slot receiver here?

I don't see how you can compare the two when Cobbs has played QB more than WR in his own offense?? Prater is a special talent, he's got all the tools to be an AA, Cobbs is going to have to work at it. Cobbs also reminds me of Gerald Jones, but Jones was also better than Cobbs, IMO, at the point Cobbs is right now.
