'10 OK ATH Demarco Cobbs

I actually thought that Florida had way more Redneck mentality.

I agree with that especially in the spring / summers. Not only do you have the local residents but Florida is a huge vacation spot for the 'necks all around the south and midwest (and yes there are a TON of them in Ohio).

And yes racism is bad in Florida it is just the reverse (Blacks hating the whites, instead of vice-versa).

And trust me the Atlantic side is nothing compared to the Panhandle when it comes to the 'necks being all over the place. It doesn't get any worse than Panama City. And if you want to go to a big-time racist town go to Tallahassee.

+1

I am sure Cobbs would love to come on VOLnation and see that his thread has turned into which part of the south has more racial tension...Come to the SEC Cobbs!!! WHoo.

Jeez.

It is boredom or the fact that they aren't happy with their lives so they feel the need to ***** and complain about everything everyone else does. Either way, parts of Tennessee are without a doubt very much backwards, especially among the 'billies and there are a lot of them.

I love coming home to visit and if the weather was better in the late fall/winter/early spring then I would have never left.

The ignorance is annoying but it isn't always too visible and is much better than many parts of the South.

There is plenty of that stuff in N. FL too. Everything outside of Gainesville and Jacksonville is completely backward and doesn't have anything but prisons.

Just a little info about the openness of FL. All states have these groups and people but FL is the third highest for Hate Groups in the country.

SPLCenter.org: Hate Groups Map

You are absolutely right. There are lots of areas that are as bad for racism as any.

I'm just going based on the areas of FL that I have experience living in. Extremem N. FL is very poor and racially tense.

Gainesville, Orlando, and Clearwater/St. Pete are a totally different atmosphere with races of all kinds intermingling daily.

You can easily get away from racism in FL. From my experience in TN it's always just around the corner. AL is the same, for that matter.

You can find social ignorance anywhere, I've just run into a lot more of it in TN than FL.

I've been saying that all along...but maybe it'll have some credence around here now that you've said it :)

Thank you for getting back on topic, but Cobbs will only play WR in college. Just because he's listed as an athlete on rivals. Every school that's recruiting him, including Tennessee, wants him to play WR, and he prefers to play WR. How does he have a better skill set to play safety? HE WONT PLAY ANYTHING BUT WR IN COLLEGE.

You know more about Cobbs' recruitment than I do, but how many guys are recruited to play one position and end up on the other side of the ball?

Not trying to argue just throwing out that idea. Milton and Ambles are already at WR and Jones is going to get a shot at WR too. That's a lot of bodies at WR.

Guys end up switching sides for a lot of reasons, the main two are its too crowded at that position and they're not playing well at that position.

And Jones will not get a look at WR and if he does it will maybe be for a day. If he plays on offense, it will be TE.

And there is no reason for Cobbs to anything but WR. Just because we have two already committed means nothing, and it doesn't make Cobbs any less better at reciever. Who knows maybe Kiffin does what he did with Fred Davis with Milton and move him to TE?

You can NEVER have too many receivers. Cobbs knows what our depth chart at WR looks like, trust me, and if he signs here than he clearly doesn't have a problem with it.

That's the one point I was trying to make.

I agree. I'm saying Cobbs is a good enough athlete to play SS at UT (not saying Cobbs will be a bad WR) while Ambles and Milton are better at WR.

I'm glad the depth or lack of doesn't scare him and I also believe you can't have too many WRs.

I'm saying Cobbs is a better overall athlete that can fill a couple of roles.

This whole thread becomes irrelevant if he signs with another school anyways.

Will Myles not get a look at SS next year? It seems like Jackson will be the FS. Cobbs would be facing stiff competition at SS too, right?

Yes Myles is and will be playing safety.

Its irrelevant though cause Demarco Cobbs will not play anything but WR.

The the thing is we aren't over crowded at WR, and even with the incoming class we won't be.. Just because we have Nuke and Teague that look to be starters next year and have Milton, Ambles, and possibly Cobbs at WR doesn't mean we are overcrowded. We're graduating practically all of our starting WRs, and if we get Cobbs, we'd have 5 quality WRs. That's not being too crowded. That's just having good depth.

Yes, Cobbs is a good enough athlete to play Safety, but there is no reason for him to be moved to safety. He has a much better skill set for WR, he wants to play WR, and we, like every other school are recruiting him at WR. There is no reason that'd he would play any position other than WR, unless something (injuries) happen.

I think a lot of people are getting caught up in his lack of great "measurables" but that doesn't mean anything once he steps onto the field. If anything, you probably have to be faster to play Safety than you do to play WR.

You did say before that you think Cobbs will wind up at Safety if he comes here and that's just wrong.
