no i understand that it has an effect. if a team doesn't have to worry about the pass, they can stack the line and make it difficult to run. Regardless a RB needs to make plays, and brown hasnt been able to do that where some have... Hardesty is doing work for us and brown really hasnt been.
im pretty sure the QB has very little effect on the performance of brown and oku. and idc how much POTENTIAL nuke has, he hasnt done anything at all when hes gotten his chances. i know they are just freshman, but they are not the type of player im talking about when i say burner
Brown is the best RB coming out since Adrian Peterson according to Rivals. He is a legit 4.4 guy, and has been clocked in the 4.3s at least once. If he gets in the open field, no one is catching him from behind...
Check out who has more catches out of the backfield Hardesty, or Brown. Check who has the higher YPC average, Hardesty or Brown. The answer to both questions is Bryce Brown...

BB simply hasnt had the opportunities to make the plays that Hardesty has. BB "did work" just fine against WKU, and you could definitely see his elusiveness on some of the screen passes against UF that should have gotten nothing and he turned them into 6-7 yard gains. He is 3 games into his true freshman season.....2 or which have been against great defenses. Give him some time before judging him either way. I can almost guarantee BB goes over 100 rushing and 50 receiving against the bobcats this weekend.
whats your point? are you seriously going to argue that Brown is the better back?
No, Hardesty might be the best RB in the SEC, he is 2nd is rushing. But he is a 5th year senior, and Bryce is a true freshman. For you to say Bryce isn't living up to his billing is ridiculous. He has been very good:
Hardesty
64 carries for 345 yards (5.4 ypc)
3 catches for 9 yards (3 ypr)
Brown
30 carries for 159 yards (5.3 ypc)
5 catches for 42 yards (8.4 ypr)
Now remember we are comparing a true freshman to the 2nd leading rusher in the SEC who happens to be a 5th year senior...
Bryce Brown was the number 1 recruit in the country. Im not 100% sure, but im pretty sure that most of the time the #1 recruit comes in and contributes from the beginning. not to mention, werent they saying he was the best running back out of hs since reggie bush?
dont know who was saying it or what they were saying
but you're fussing about a freshman after 3 games on a team that has horrendous offensive line problems and cant pass the ball to save his life.
He's going to get it down, but he wasn't going to be a superstar immediately. He's got to learn the college game and he'll get there.
But #1 recruit doesn mean anything as far as contributing immediately; it means more along the lines of in a year or two they're going to be one of the best out there on the field (or at least that they have potentials as well as skills)
But number 1 ranked qbs still ride the bench for at least a year unless a team becomes absolutely desparate when their offense ceases to function
(see notre dame and jimmy clausen);
vince young didnt become his team's starter till weeks after the oklahoma game...which they lost by 50 points, he continued to split time with chance mock till the A&M game at season's end, and his stats are all over the place that season
ernie sims, reggie bush, adrian peterson, ted ginn, derrick williams, patrick turner, joe mcknight, harvin .... it goes all over the spectrum with these guys, there's no real trend
but they - and all the number 1s - come in and split time with the starters till they get the team system and the college game down; they later have some big plays and then can get the starting job on their own - whether it be at the end of the season or the beginning of the next
but none of them really come in and from game 1 and 2 dominate to their full potential - noone starts off with a crabtree-esque performance (and if they do, it's really rare; those are the exception there, not the rule they all still have to learn; it will come, but to expect that from a freshman in game 1 is a bit much
im not saying that brown is a bad running back. im just saying i dont think he has the "big play" potential that we need right now. I know i certainly didnt hold my breath every time he touched the ball, but i was biting my nails every time we kicked to brandon james.
Really? BB is the fastest RB (an possibly offensive player) that we have. Again, its only been 3 games and he hasnt really had the carries to produce any big plays except in one game.....and he produced in that one.
you are getting me all wrong. i am not fussing about brown at all. i just dont see him being the burner and huge playmaker that can bust one open anytime. i want someone who is just pure speed that can do that. that was all i was saying! sheesh..
oh ok, my bad then.
I'm in a similar boat, I wish we had someone there with speed like lamarcus coker (4.3) did....though it's hard to find RBs who not only have reggie bush or lamarcus coker or chris johnson speed but are also good (or 5 star) runningbacks
that said, while he's not a burner, bryce will still be a playmaker....think of him making perhaps somewhere between jamal lewis and travis henry where he won't end up outrunning everyone everytime, but he'll have plenty of time where he'll get some big runs or - later on - belt some guys
yes! thats what me and that other guy were saying. I would prefer a super fast rb in this class that can contribute 5-10 plays a game, and really give defenses a headache over someone like lattimore who is just gonna compete with and most likely lose to brown. a speed guy would be a nice compliment to brown.
