'10 TN OL James Stone

Hood better hit the weights hard. Every time I see him on the sidelines, he doesn't look SEC ready at all. I notice him a lot because of that shag hair he's got going on.

Under Armour All-American offensive tackle James Stone (Nashville, Tenn./Maplewood) does not have Tennessee in his top five, ESPN affiliate Web site AuburnUndercover.com reports.

Maplewood coach Ralph Thompson said Stone's current top five includes Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt. Tennessee, while still in the mix, did not make his top group.

"I guess just by proximity they are still in there, but I don't think he feels comfortable there," Thompson said. "It is not the right fit for him. It is nothing against Tennessee, but he just doesn't feel comfortable there."

Stone has made official visits to Notre Dame and LSU. Thompson added, "He still wants to take his final three official visits. He wants to have all this sewn up by the Under Armour game. I think he will announce at that game on Jan. 2. He will make it known where he wants to go."

Some kids don't like the intensity... He may be one. Good luck to him wherever he ends up at.....

After the way he was done at the Tennessee camp against the likes of J Smith, Willis, and Miller, I don't blame him not wanting to face that every week at practice! He doesn't strike me as one who likes to the intensity. Wish him the best!

Douglas doesn't look heavy either. They're about the same height, right? They'd make a good comparison.

I don't think the coaches will lose any sleep over Stone.

I wonder how hard they've been recruiting him. I agree, he doesn't seem the right fit. I would like to see more commitments from kids from Tennessee because they grew up watching the Vols, but at least we're getting the best players out there.

Maybe "doesn't feel comfortable" means "doesn't feel pursued" by this staff. With James here and Cullen, Green and maybe Coleman or Robinson considering us, there's only so much room. I would have been happy to welcome Stone in but from reports from others, this doesn't seem like a great loss.

I think "doesn't feel comfortable" and "doesn't think it's the right fit" could easily translate into:

"Stone is just a big guy with some athleticism playing against weak competition which has led to him being over-rated and since he's been dominated everytime he's gone against true D-1 level prospects the UT staff isn't pursuing him very hard and therefore he'll probably look elsewhere"

:lolabove: Yea, because Auburn, LSU and Bama absolutely want guys that can't play and get dominated everytime they go against D-1 prospects.
Don't make dumbass comments because UT isn't in his top 5. I've seen him play all 4 years, the kid can flat out play. This staff isn't for everybody dude.

He was the 3rd or 4th best player at our OL camp. At best.

He got dominated by Miller, Willis, Jacques, and a couple others IIRC.

Jacques ate his lunch again earlier in the season.

He has a ton of potential, but he's probably 2 years away from contributing IMO

:lolabove: What do you not get about the fact that he has played against terrible competition and has been dominated every time he has played against a legit DL.

If Stone were so great, then our staff would have made him a top priority since he is in-state and OL is a huge need. The fact is that he isn't an elite talent and our staff has bigger fish to fry.
