'10 TN OL James Stone

I think it will be really disappointing if we cant pull the best OL in our own state. It isnt like TN produces D1 talent a lot, and he is at a HUGE position of need. People acting like we dont want him that much are kidding themselves. We need to win this recruiting battle, if for nothing else, because he is a highly ranked prospect in our own backyard.

I don't understand why the staff wants out of state talent when Stone is rated an AA and is probably as good as he's made out to be.

If Stone doesn't get on board soon, he may miss the train. I don't think that the coaches will wait around for him if he wants to keep playing around with his recruitment. One thing I am noticing more and more about this coaching staff, is they are all business and want kids who want to take the game seriously and win a lot and often.

I agree. Kiffin and Co. encourage kids to take all of their visits and make sure they are making the right decision. BUT, I don't think he is a fan of recruits who draw it out JUST looking for attention and publicity. They tend to move on if a guy is not getting real serious. Sure, Stone is a good player, but there are plenty of good OL out there. He won't make or break this class.

False. He was owned at camp here and James, Fulton, Green, Wilson, Coleman, Cullen, Kouandjio and possibly Robinson are higher OL on our board than Stone.

If this is true will you please call Stone and tell him. It probably would help us out alot.

I somewhat disagree here because if the staff didn't want to wait on players who take to long to decide why spend so much effort on players already commited.

I think this staff will go after every recruit out there right now. They know players are still not completely convinced UT is back or how to take this staff yet. So I believe Kiffin and Co. know they will not get everyone they are after this year, so they go after as many as possible to still get a great class. There will be many schools that limit who they want and in the end fall way short. I think UT even with the ones they do not get will still have a top 5 class for 2010. If UT improves next year, especially with a very young class playing next year 2011 could be huge for UT.

I think that je is waiting to see if Saban accepts his commitment and then we will know where we stand. Bama must be slow playing him.

Not being mean, but you are speaking out of complete ignorance in that post. Just because a prospect from TN doesnt have us as his leader doesnt automatically mean we dont want him. CLK and Coach Cregg want Stone as bad as any lineman they are currently in on.

Two things here....

1. The staff does want him, they just aren't going to wait around because OL is a need and there are others who want to come here. He's not on top of the board, but he's not as low as you think either.

2. Camp performances hold weight, just not as much as you think. All that happens is the DL gets to pin their ears back and go as fast as they can. That doesn't happen every play in a game, because of coverages and other factors. If all they are doing is pass rushing the QB dummy in camp, advantage DL 100% of the time.

Stone made it clear his announcement will not be until NSD so it just appears we don't have him as high as others because we are pushing others hard publicly since they may announce at any moment....Things will heat up with Stone toward signing day

Our coaches know better than to judge an OL solely on a drill, without pads, where the DL gets to just rush as fast as he can. Great OL play is all about pad level. When you dont have pads on, it is much harder to block a D-Lineman. I firmly believe, after talking to some of my friends that work in the program, that we want Stone as bad as any other OL that is on our board. He could be a future star at either of the OG positions.

IMO:

OT- James, Pair, Green.....once Green is official I could see us backing off the other targets except for Shon Coleman but I don't see him coming here.

OG- Fulton and pushing for torrian wilson, Cullen, Stone..we take and want all 3 here

My post was in reference to the implication of the coaches "badly" wanting him. They are still recruiting him, but he is not high on the boards at all. He not only had a bad camp but has had several games this year that made him look suspect. Camp was enough to get Fulton an offer and pull him near the top of the board and enough for the staff to chill on Stone.

They believe Stone is a definite future NFL player.

They do want him and I have no idea what the order is on the OL but they want him. Not sure they want to wait to NSD though and will not say no to some others to risk a wait on someone not sure what they will do.

Staff will not turn down Stone if he called today to commit.
