'10 TN OL James Stone

I think we might be saying the opposite. I don't see Dooley shooting for the stars like the last group did. The set of names we've seen over the past couple of weeks are an enormous step down. I hope it's all about making the best of a really bad situation, but I don't believe it is.

You don't believe it is? Good call. He probably should have concentrated his efforts on ONLY the top rated players (Rivals 100). You know, the kids who have been committed for months, built incredibly strong relationships with coaches from other schools for the past 3 years, and have never heard of or spoken to coach DD (or pretty much the entire staff).

JEEZ! Instead this guy goes for all the sh*%ty, low-hanging fruit that nobody wants, like: 4* WR Justin Hunter, 4* DB Eddrick Loften, 4* LB Glen Stanley, etc.....

What a joke this guy is.

yes. Now a couple of O linemen and this isn't a total disaster. Next year, look out.

I've heard the state of Tennessee
will have alot of solid blue chippers next so it could definitely be a great class if that's true

Please explain. If I'm not mistaken three of DD's commits are rated 4* by Rivals. He isn't recruiting the same guys and exactly how he's getting in so quickly with these guys is a mystery to me... but Hunter, Loften, and Stanley definitely look like solid prospects to me. Stanley is an instant impact at LB which M Taylor would not have been. Jackson is a bit more of a mystery but the write up on him glowed about his athleticism in spite of pretty avg measurables. Could be he's faster in pads than in track shoes... I don't know.

Of the guys who were actually committed and decommitted, Ambles is the only one that really sticks out to me.

If Dooley doesn't consistently bring in top 10-15 classes he will not be around for year 4. He knows it as well as anybody else.

BigPapaVol, I got the wrong context out of your post.

I believe Dooley is gonna be on top of his game in 2011 recruiting.

This week, We have reeled in a nice haul on CDD's watch. He has been at a distinct disadvantage and under severe time constraints.

its not like he's a total stranger to big time recruiting, I believe he knows what he's doing.

Time will tell.

True. But if he consistently brings in top 40 classes that survive academic and conduct standards then he'll leave the program in 10 times better shape than he inherited it.

I am pleasantly surprised with what he's accomplishing in recruiting. He doesn't even have a full staff and is getting some quality guys.

I wonder if his lawyer skills are coming into play? Maybe he makes very convincing closing arguments?

For the long run, I'm really more interested to see how he fills out his staff than I am with any remaining individual recruit (even offensive lineman).

far more important than how the class finishes. Class was damaged big time when CLK left and getting to point it was headed was impossible for anyone who was hired....

at this point, lacking the stud recruiters. need at least 4 with 2 on each side of ball being optimum. I count 1 thus far..

Withers and Blake a real possibility Big L?

With UT's current roster, I don't think you can say that either the staff hires or remaining class are anything less than critical.

The previous staff was excellent at being in 5 star prospects top 3 or 4. This (unfinished) staff is excellent at signing 4 star prospects after one visit. Which would you rather have?

agreed. Hiring those guys is going to be problematic, not just due to the timing. Most have said no because they really believe that failure is a more likely outcome than success and aren't willing to be tainted that way.

We're not recruiting the same guys. You can throw star ratings at me for the rest of your life and it won't change what's happening here. Each class has a handful of real difference makers and we were competing favorably for several of them even though we had no business competing for them based upon our past few years.

I'm talking about guys like Ambles, Dixon, Green, Jones, Cullen etc. That's not saying we can't be competitive. It's just saying that we are no longer in it for the guys that would put us over the top.

Not only has he been under severe time restraints, but at our positions of greatest need (OL and DL, IMO), he has been recruiting without position coaches or a DC in place. To sell 4-star athletes on our program without having the staff in place is a big deal. Dooley knows how to recruit, plain and simple.

I've got a pretty good idea how. These are probably guys who were interested in playing for Tennessee all along, but who either couldn't stand Lame and/or Zer-O, or who were not being recruited by our former staff because they were chasing other prospects at those positions.

Not all kids are impressed by a coach's ability to run his mouth and make an ass out of himself. There are some who actually just want to play some good football.

Guys, Dooley made quite an impression on James this weekend. Don't be surprised when this kid signs with Tennessee on Feb. 3rd.

V,B!

I thought we was still fully in it (if not in the lead) for Jones (Delvin correct?). Just for the heck out it let's say we get Jones, Rogers, and Stone (all who this staff is going after, but I think Rogers is a long shot). So add Loften and another 4* OL pick-up and I think we come out just as good. So it is not that far off from what we had, and given the timing of everything that is pretty good.

Are people keeping in mind that the staff is not complete and only been together a little over a week?

Thanks! I feel like you are probably the most well-respected poster with 15 or less posts to their credit. :hi:

Ambles and Green, OK. But those other guys from the info I have seen are no better than the guys UT has gotten. I was thoroughly unimpressed by Dixon's performance in the AA game. Cullen is a JUCO that we talked up but I think it is a stretch to call him one of the few difference makers in this class. Guys like Jones are necessities... but he isn't a unique talent.

The only reason I mentioned the ratings is because someone who had done some research believed those guys were in the same range as these other guys. If that's true then it comes down to coaching them up. That's a much greater unknown at this point than whether these guys have enough talent to compete.
