'10 TN OL James Stone

I didn't want this guy in the old system, but now, I think that we can definitely use him. I think that he will be a good one, and especially since he's an in-state boy, that makes it greater. If there's a good player in Tennessee, I want to get them. I hate we missed out on Brunetti. But I wish him luck, and I'm happy with our class thus far.

Zone blocking? You don't think we'll stay with it?

James will announce his college decision on National Signing Day at 10:30 at his high school. The decision will be between Tennessee and Alabama. Auburn is still recruiting him extremely hard and is not going down without a fight but right now it looks like it will be either the Vols or the Tide. He will meet with coaches from both staffs tomorrow.

You are comparing Kiffin's wish list to the guys that Dooley is actually signing...

We won't know the full story on Dooley's ability to recruit for at least a year, perhaps two.

Exactly. Going after someone and actually getting them are very different.

In Scout article even his HS coach is finally saying that it's down to Tennessee and Alabama and that Tennessee is the leader because he and Dooley really hit it off.

Good news.

I would bet that you won't be able to see a discernable difference in the O. I'm about 99% certain that UT couldn't change from zone blocking right now if they wanted to. The current OL's are designed for it. Hard to emphasize man to man schemes when your OL will probably avg 300 or a little less.

I think you're right. Aaron Douglas is an example of that. He is perfect for zone blocking, but I can't imagine him switching to a traditional man scheme.

I think Douglas will eventually play at 300 or a little better but that still isn't big enough in modern CFB for m2m blocking... especially against 3-4 D's.

Nothing. If Stone lives up to his potential then it shouldnt matter but you never really know. If we go to a 3-4 Glass could very easily end up at NT.

Your right, no way they abandon the zone blocking scheme. It neutralizes deficencies in athletic abilities. Just look at last years OL performance.

he may say that but he is working hard to turn him to Bama

Wouldn't this technically be a recruiting violation if the coach is pushing a recruit to a program he supports?

Not that it is a big deal and I'm sure it happens everywhere, but all the facebook talk about trying to influence recruits could be an NCAA violation got me wondering. Seems like a coaching pushing a student to his team would be a bigger deal than facebook.

It looks like Stone will go to UT. There has always been interest on S Coleman's part in UA, but none really shown towards him once he commited to the Barn. Now Saban is visiting him tommorow and he suppose to visit UA this weekend. I think the fact we are going after Coleman is a good indicator that Stone is going to be a Vol. Either way I do not think either will make a decision until NSD.

Thanks for the update and insight.

Maybe UT gets them both.

The best part is the paranoid Barn fans. They believe Saban has set them up. They think since CNS and CDD are friends that he helped to make sure that Stone went to UT and not visit the Barn and then stoled Coleman from them. It makes me laugh.:)

A nice trade but from everything I have read Stone was higher on our board then Cloeman. It was always believed that Coleman was a backup if we didn't get Stone or Arie.

Either way Stone will be a great pickup for UT.
