'10 TN OL James Stone

Guys, maybe I'm wrong, but this sounds like a VERY, VERY good idea on Auburn's part. I mean, think about it. Two days for the coaches to start building a relationship with these players based around something other than football. 48 hours is a long time for the coaches to be having fun and talking to the players about life, girls, problems, etc. These guys won't forget this. And this isn't just James Stone and a bunch of rejects who are gonna be there. I'll throw out some names of people who will also be there: Tyrone Cornelius, JC COPELAND, Khairi Fortt, Lattimore, Mincy, Owens, Trovon Reed, Jeremy Richardson, Seastrunk. All that talent setting around talking about going to Auburn together is not a pleasant thought...

If you think this isn't going to put Auburn high on the list of these guys, you're lying to yourself. I've been like a few others on here and thought Auburn's staff has been sort of a joke with Tiger Prowl and I've not really worried about them at all. This has changed my mind. They aren't leading for Seastrunk, Dyer, Lattimore, Reed, Richardson, Mincy, and Owens by accident. They know what they are doing. Maybe not as actual football coaches, but you cannot deny it on the recruiting front. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they came away with a commit or two from some those big names they lead for...

Don't forget that Copeland named Auburn as his leader just 10 days before he committed to the Vols. And with Auburn's lack of depth on the OL, the battle for James Stone just got alot tougher...

Come on, be real. You've been on Auburn's jock all Spring about the "headway" they've been making in recruiting. Too bad none of that has turned into commitments from anyone not barely rated as a 3 star.

But I agree with you here. I do think it is a great idea and one I wish we had thought of first. 2 days of fellowship with coaches and players interested in Auburn? On the recruits own dime? Just brilliant. They will get some commits from this most likely whether it be this weekend or on down the road.

It's one thing to try and pull a fast one on the media...say controversial things knowing everything now a'days is seconds from going up on YouTube. It's another to try and convince HS kids that you're just "Trying to get away from it all," when they know you're simply trying to butter them up for the cooking pot, as it were. :)

As if the kids didn't know in every single other exchange they had that the coaches had the same objective...

We haven't been much better. One 4* UT lifer. One 4* whos likely to decommit if he gets a better offer. 3 3*s, and 2 guys who aren't even ranked.

That's debatable, but we will end up with a much better class than Auburn when all is said and done and that's all that matters. I hope for Auburn to recruit well and keep some players away from Bama. The thing that bothers me is when the recruits see the product that they are going to put on the field, no amount of limos or Cat days are going to help them.

Your thinking about somebody else, man. I haven't thought would get any of these players except Richardson and Owens. I thought the Tiger Prowl was retarded and the only RB they even had a chance to land was Dyer, but they still wouldn't get him.

sounds like ut

If Kiffin and Orgeron didn't have so many national championship rings I would be inclined to agree with you. Lane was the Off. Coordinator and WR coach for probably the greatest offense in CFB history. Orgeron is the best DL coach in the nation. It isn't even a question. Monte is one of the top 2 or 3 defensive coordinators in NFL history. And you will hard pressed to find a better RB coach and one who has put more talent at RB in the NFL than Eddie Gran...

You can question CLK as a head coach, but you can't question the guys around him...

I hope for Auburn to recruit well and keep some players away from Bama.

As of right now, it looks like they are hurting LSU just as much as they are Bama...

So, this Auburn thing ... does it count as one of the official visits allowed for each of these attendees? I would think it would. Not same as a camp.

The only reason the other 2 aren't rated is because they are JUCO....& JUCO ratings have not come out yet.

Maybe I am. Could've sworn it was you. Sorry if it wasn't.

They haven't done anything to hurt LSU yet. I wouldn't mind that so much either, but I think we are going to hurt LSU this year and in the future as much, if not more, than any program. That's my hope at least.:)

The only people we have who you can say may not be great coaches are Reaves for QB, maybe Wilson at WR since I dont think he's ever done it before, and Willie Mack Garza for DBs

Everyone else has proven to be at least decent if not elite.

Thompson hasn't yet proved to be the elite recruiter he was for Saban (or perhaps because of Saban). Most people don't consider him to be elite at developing talent like Orgeron or Chaney. It was still great to yank him out of Alabama unexpectedly but it may it up looking like he was overpaid in a few years.

Cregg is another guy that I think the jury is still out on. Questionable value as a recruiter but he pro experience is nice.

Tennessee's performance the next few years could make or break a lot of careers on this staff since we are directly in the national spotlight. If we beat expectations these guys will be hot commodities.

Don'ta Hightower? Rolando McClain? ???

Both were highly regarded recruits and Saban/Kirby could have had just as much to do with their success. Thompson hasn't had a long history of consistently developing LBs to outperform their expectations, simply because Bama was his first time even coaching LBs. Thompson could very well prove to be an elite position coach, but to say his is elite at actually coaching the LB position is ridiculous at this point. I was only trying to say that the jury is still out.

Willie Mack Garza for DBs

Willie Mack was an All-American at Texas. Being good at something doesn't always translate to teaching skills, but he certainly understands the position at a high level. I think he can coach the position personally, but I'm waiting to see who he recruits to Tennessee from Texas.

Frank Wilson is definitely the biggest question mark on our staff, coaching wise. He's coaching a position he's never even coached before (WRs). While Garza and Thompson have at leasts coached their respective positions before.

Meh - Reaves hardly coached QBs at USCjr - and if he did (assuming Spurrier wasn't as involved as most of us thought), then he really sucked at it.

I just threw him in there because he had only coached at TCU and North Dakota State (I think?). So he's not really as highly regarded or proven as everyone else.

I don't think Thompson is a bad coach, I think he's just going to be about average. Saban had so much to do with his success at Bama. And if you go back and look at his history, he was pretty much average before Saban as well.

Even if Wilson isn't a great WR coach though, he more than makes up for it with his recruiting.

The only coaches I'm really not too excited about are Garza (Unproven, if he pulls some good players out of Texas and keeps the DBs solid I'll be happy) and Reaves (Who I think was basically just a family hire).
