'10 WA QB Jake Heaps

We are prime chape to get a great QB. What's better than plating in front of 107,000 fans, playing in the SEC in front of the nation, playing at a place that is an NFL factory, playing for a staff that has coached Leinhart, Carson Palmer, John David Booty, Drew Brees, playing for a place that has had guys like Manning, Shuler, Clawson, Ainge, playing for a place that will almost guarantee early playing time. We are fine.

Don't forget that we just signed Bryce Brown and that Monte's defensive is going to cause a lot of turnovers which will turn the ball back over to the offense.

but yes we are definitely fine in the QB chase....

We still have to realize...Kiff and staff have been on the job together for LESS than 3 months. Some of these QB's have been getting recruited by the same coaches for 2+ years.....and that would go for every other position as well. That is why we dont have as many early commits as some "expected". Let them get to campus, see some practices, maybe the O&W game....we will get the guy/s we want at QB I have no doubt.

Reaves recruited Heaps for over a year at SCar I think. But yeah, I understand what you're saying.

I just know to expect a decision in the coming week between UT or Washington. I would say UT's chances are decent, but it's still looking iffy right now with the opportunity to be a part of a rejuvinated Washington program. It's still Heaps and Bell at the top of the list and I know Reaves has talked to Bell this past week so they are keeping in close contact with him just in case....

I like bell better then heaps anyway. bell has a waaaaaaay higher ceiling.

For people on the Bell bandwagon--saying he has a higher ceiling than Heaps is like saying Kenny George had a higher ceiling than Tyler Hansbrough. You could argue that Bell has a higher ceiling than many other prospects in this class, but to say that is like suggesting that it's already a foregone conclusion that Bell will hit that mark.

Most athletes never hit their ceiling and not everyone breaks that wall to take their game to the next level. Sure Bell is 6'6 with a stronger than average arm, but he's unpolished and will definitely need a redshirt. Tennessee needs an early enrollee who is further along than Bell and can vie for snaps in his 2nd year at the very latest.

I know but did someone talk or are you just expecting it?

I'm just worried that if we do get Heaps, he'll then take off for two years for his Mormon Bishiphood thing and then we're screwed

I haven't heard anything different so I am sticking to what I have been saying, expect a commit this week to either UT or Washington.

wasn't yelling at you. just voicing that Bell's rising star is mostly based on his measurables (his 6'6 frame) and his "ceiling" rather than what he's shown on the field. his rating as Rivals' #1 QB in the preseason list was absolutely absurd. he may make a fine Div. 1 QB in 2-3 years but at the moment he is one to watch and not one to covet (IMO obviously). Tennessee needed a star QB yesterday and Bell is at minimum 2yrs away from being a starter in the SEC.
