10 year show cause/NCAA, Tyndall discussion (merged)

Well, we're close. I'm thinking we need a spark off the bench and Turner might fill that role well. He could come in at the 1 or the 2 and give those guys a break. I don't see how you leave Mostella out of the lineup after he scored 17, 18, and 19 points in the SEC tournament and led the Rocky Top League averaging over 50 points. He could well be the replacement we need for the scoring of Kevin Punter. I don't think Hubbs can fill that role.

Stella's defense is still in question.
going to be a lot more emphasis on D this season. If you don't defend , you won't play.
I'm trying to believe the hype on Hubbs. Hoping he has arrived. One of the keys to the season.

It's worth discussing with a few short weeks to tip off.
Should get another practice report today. Some info from Media day too.

I agree. I would just like to see opinions of the starting lineup without caveats. Like I said I think Bone will be the pg. Mostella, Hubbs, Schofield, and Evans will join him with Turner the six man. I think Evans will start because of experience and because Barnes will feel a need to justify adding him plus he probably promised that when he recruited him. If I start the thread, it will get no responses.

As for the starting line-up...

Last year we gave up an average of 75.2 points per game. That's the most points given up since 2000-2001, Jerry Green's final year.

More relevant though is that in 17 years at Texas, no Barnes team ever gave up that many points. They only gave up 70+ 4 times in that span.

On the other side we scored 75.1 points per game which is right on par with what Barnes did at Texas.

So I believe the guys that will start will be the best defenders at their positions.

I'll go with Calban on this one.

The shorter clock and more poss per game had a lot to do with the increase in points allowed.

In 100 possessions there was a 1 point allowed difference at a less possession rate the previous season. if that makes sense.

I understand but we were 12th in the league and 259th in the country in scoring defense and Barnes is going to want better than that based on his history was my only point.

The shorter clock was made to order for Tyndall's defense. it worked really well with the 35 second clock. The goal was to have the opposing team have to use so much time getting the ball to mid court that they did not have much time to set up and run any plays. This was another way to put pressure on the guy running the team in addition to having a problem recognizing whether the defense was zone or man to man. You would characterize it as a hybrid zone with the capability of morphing into man to man.

Boy you are asking to get banned aren't you
This is sort of confusing. I didn't mention the other problem you have with me. I have been asking for a starting five multiple times. Many have given one. Could you explain what is wrong with that? It's a couple of weeks til basketball season and a legitimate question.

Maybe that you're taunting posters asking if they're scared to post theirs, or maybe it's the fact you have felt the need to ask it multiple times when once was plenty?

Or maybe it is the making of a pretense to want to talk about the team, when everyone knows that what ever is posted will turn into a praise of CDT and a bashing of CRB.

I can honestly say that I've seen an effort in his last few posts to get off the conspiracy lunacy and talk about some sane subjects.
But I try not to hold on to grudges and that's just me. To each um us his own.

What I want to do is to be able to cheer the basketball Vols as they compete in important games just like every other fan. It is terribly disappointing to think that is years away. Aside from my alma mater, I want them to win every game for the kids' sake. These are young men being placed in the most pressure packed situation of their lives all across the country and success on the court is important to them being successful on the academic side. They deserve the best and its disgraceful when the fans turn on them like the did the football team. Those kids heard the boos and the football team was fighting their hearts out. I do not want that happening in basketball.

The boos were not for the kids. Those were for Jones who in their opinion pissed away time left on the clock.

And the same thing can happen in basketball. Some of the kids said they heard the boos and that motivated them to do better and they did. By the way, so did the coaches. Fans are so fragile. The boos are in the minority but they can still be heard. Many can't deal with losing. It's all shown by the attendance. Happens everywhere.
