If Buie wants to come, then Devrin Young better kiss his scholly buh-bye.

The staff likes Devrin too much. They won't ask him to go anywhere else. He is here to stay.

Yeah I forgot about Young. If Buie did want to come to Tennessee then there isn't a doubt in my mind that we would tell Young to look elsewhere. Young has speed, but Buie is a MUCH better talent compared to Young.

The staff isn't going to tell DY to look around no matter who wants to commit imo

If Land AND Buie wanted to commit, I wouldn't tell Smith to look elsewhere. I wouldn't tell DY to look elsewhere. Competition amongst the team is good. It depends on how the recruits view the situation. I would rather pick up those two guys if we know we can get them. JMO.

Competition is good, but we can't take all four for the sake of competition when we have other needs to fill. In that situation we should take the best 3 which would be Lane, Smith, and Buie. Buie can do everything Young can do but Buie can be that speed back we've been looking for.

I wouldn't want to tell either Young or Smith to look elsewhere, they both have potential to be good players for Tennessee. I just dont see us taking 4 backs, even though Young isn't really being considered as a back. I mean I dont really Buie coming here anyways. It would be nice, but I wouldn't count on it.

I think some disparage DY because of his stars and offer list.

However, I think he's a guy who loves UT enough and lives close enough that he would grayshirt in order for us to sign another top-rated guy.

Would you rather have:
Smith, Lane, Buie, and DY with a grayshirt or just Smith, Lane, and DY?

IMO, we should find a way to get as many playmakers as possible.

I could be wrong but I doubt we sign 3 true running backs in this class

I love how people on here act as though they know what the staff will do. Not one coach has ever came out and said we wont ask people to look elsewhere, or we might, but just not DY. The staff has more integrity than the last, but they're not stupid nor stubborn. If someone makes you better you take them and they know this. I have no doubt this staff will take the 26 best players that want to come not the 26 players that committed first.

Much of the love for DY on this board can't stem from anything else other than him being local. If Buie can do everything DY can, including fielding a punt, but do it better then there's no reason to keep DY.

Food for thought...DY is no more than 5 miles down Kingston Pike from campus, he was the easiest prospect for the staff to evaluate, yet he didn't get his offer till Sep/Oct. Long after people like Buie. Obviously they had/have people ahead of him.

And you have to love people assuming that the only people who like Devrin Young like him because he's local. I live 6 hrs. from Knoxville, and I could care less if he is local or not yet I know that he's good. He's on a crappy team including an O-line yet week in and out destroyed competition. Dooley and staff love him, and yes I know that from people who actually know and not from recruiting services. Buie is not as good as advertised just like Oku.

Oh so because you live 6 hrs away that has a bearing on whether or not he's local in comparison to the school? I didn't say local people like him. As someone who grew up in FL and played HS ball against the competition, I'll take a FL kid anyday over an East TN kid. Just ask UF how that's worked out recently.

You of course realize the staff has already passed over Buie at one point for DY right?

And if you had DY in Florida, he would be starting and getting more recognition. However, he is stuck in East TN playing on some crappy team yet still dominating. And once again, I'm not in East TN and do not care if DY is local so what is my excuse for liking him as a recruit? What is 247's excuse for giving him a better rating than Buie. I can guarantee you that no one at Rivals has ever been to one of his games nor saw his highlight film.

Exactly. And people also mentioned Romar Morris, yet the staff likes Milton over him. But don't tell that to them because their only knowledge about a recruit is a star rating.

There's no way the staff passed over Buie for DY, b/c everyone is claiming DY's offer is for a return man strictly. The staff is/was recruiting Buie has the HR, speed back. If DY is going to fill the HR threat role then the staff wouldn't still be recruiting RB.

I tend to go based on what the coaching staff told him once they offered him and accepted his commitment. And that was that they loved his versatility and would contribute in the return game, in the slot, and at RB. Yes, the staff took DY over Buie. We aren't getting Buie, deal with it.
