Kinda bad if we are relying on a JUCO player to come in and start at center for us...that being said, if the staff wants him there must be something they see

I see it as being proactive I would rather attempt to correct this problem before the fall...

wouldnt you?

But does he have the look of murder in his eyes? (Wild Bill Hickok from the movie Little Big Man)

The will let him know Saturday whether they will offer or not. My feeling is, they will, mainly because we don't have a "true" center on the team.

This guy looks and it sounds like he could help at a desperate position for us. We need a starter and we need depth behind him. Just having another body would help immensely.

I have a funny feeling this might be a gift for us. To be that successful in wrestling in Iowa is a pretty big deal, that is a very popular sport in that state so alot of quality athletes participate. We have an excellent track record with centers with a wrestling background, Wells and Weary. He appears to have excellent balance, I think he can get the job done on the run but worry about pass blocking. I know it is against the rules, but would it not be nice to see him and Montori go at it to see if he can cut the mustard.

I wonder how highly sought after he was during the college recruiting process? Did anybody in the Big 12 offer this kid? the Big 10 (except Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State)?

Scout does not have a bio on him so I wonder.

:crazy:Jessie Mahelona, Dale Carter, Chris Mims, Gibril Wilson, ect. have all done the same. I am not saying that this kid is on that level, but if he can start, then good. Offensive line is the hardest position to evaluate in my opinion. You really don't know how good many of these guys will be until they face the competition on campus. Remember how highly Brandon Jefferies was ranked? After one practice everyone knew he was a bust. I think signing this guy will prove to be a good addition.

Looked at the Iowa Western roster he is 6'2, 290lb. I'm assuming they haven't updated their roster because he is still listed as a freshman, if he signs here would I be correct in thinking he'll have three years to play?

He just finished his freshman year, so he has four years to play three. Since he was already qualified (just did not get a D1 scholly), he does not need to finish his JUCO and can play this year. Given what we already have at center, I would definitely look for him to start from day 1.

I'm hearing good stuff about this guy, but I'm confused. It says on Rivals in that article that he went to play JUCO football after not being recruited/offered or whatever out of HS in hopes of playing big-time CFB, but that "he didn't think it would happen this fast." So, I assumed he had just enrolled, & that he was really a HS Sr. Is this not the case?? He played a full year at Iowa West? If so, why so shocked as to get a D1 offer after a year of JUCO...that's when most ppl come out?? Why no HS recruiting? Spread himself too thin with sports?

What they saw was Spring Practice. 'nuff said.

My guess is that if he can reliably snap the ball and if he does not need an oxygen tank to breathe, he will get an offer.

Kinda makes us wonder. Was there any other school looking at him besides us?

Looks like all he needs is one of those horned helmets and a double-bladed ax and he could be a Viking. Bring him to the middle of the line and let him smash people.

These r the type of Cats we need to come to UT smart that can play with chips on their shoulders that because of the Big time schools are giving any interest! ( of course we are going get some studs cause of people that are fans of the program)

How about this. You take the chip on their shoulder players, and i'll take the blue chippers. We'll see who wins the battle of the trenches.

I read where this kid only lost 3 matches as a wrestler in H.S. In Iowa, that's fantastic. A good HS wrestler from the midwest can usually play OL. Ask Nebraska.
