11' JUCO OL/C Dallas Hendrikson

I thought so too....shows how quick footed he is as well as smart....he sold it pretty dang good huh! We need a kid that trully understands the center position....whether he wings us through the season or turns out to be a ginger diamond in the rough we need beef up front.....even if it is extra raw and bloody!

lol ginger diamond in the rough. The block was sweet and he can lay the wood for sure. My only concern is the competition that Iowa Western faces. Personally, I think it is a fantastic pick-up at a position of need. I also thought it was interesting that the coach for Iowa Western was willing to help Dooley and this staff at the expense of his starting center...speaks volumes for the coach at Iowa W. and Dooley

Looks like he would be a great help this year, and if the coaches like him, sign him up quickly.

I'm not on this board as often as a lot of you, but what is this news about Arthur Brown possibly transfering to UT? I haven't seen a thread about that. I thought he had already transferred to K State. I thought the most likely senario was for Bryce to possibly transfer to K State to play with his brother in their home state. Could someone please enlighten me a bit?

I'm hearing good stuff about this guy, but I'm confused. It says on Rivals in that article that he went to play JUCO football after not being recruited/offered or whatever out of HS in hopes of playing big-time CFB, but that "he didn't think it would happen this fast." So, I assumed he had just enrolled, & that he was really a HS Sr. Is this not the case?? He played a full year at Iowa West? If so, why so shocked as to get a D1 offer after a year of JUCO...that's when most ppl come out?? Why no HS recruiting? Spread himself too thin with sports?

NO, most people come out after TWO years of JUCO. The only way you can come out after one is if you were a qualifier out of high school. Many of the players that go to JUCO are non-qualifiers out of high school.

How about this. You take the chip on their shoulder players, and i'll take the blue chippers. We'll see who wins the battle of the trenches.

False choice that you've set up there.

I would approach it a different way. I'll take as many blue chippers as I can get and then fill the roster with as many less-than-blue-chippers who have character that my coaches think can play a role for us and I'll drill most anyone/everyone who only wants only one or the other.

It's kind of silly, but I think Dooley's thoughts on talent vs. character are about like ol' Barney Stinson's thoughts on hot vs. crazy for a woman. If she's crazy, she'd better be pretty damm hot. If a guy has marginal or lower character, he'd better be a 4-5 star to even be considered. If he's a 3-star or lower, he'd better not have character issues.

Bottom line is that there are no 'blue chip' centers available on May 27, 2010 to play this fall. This guy is available, looks to be athletic, and just might be the best center we have on the roster if we sign him. If he is our best center this fall (or any other fall for that matter), our team got better by signing him. If he isn't, all we've lost is the dollar value of the scholarship. And you can't use this particular scholarship next year to sign that blue chipper you prefer due to annual limits.

I hope the coaches see enough promise to offer and that he's our best center come fall. That would mean that we have gotten better.

I'll take the kid with a chip on his shoulder till the blue chipper gets here. We need depth and we need it now. Sounds like a solid athleate. IMHO We should offer him.

Dear Lord, am I on the right forums, the last few posts on here were speaking sense instead of just saying "we suck and will never get better. I think I will go kick a puppy now!"

Good posts guys and thanks for speaking sense.

this thread shows how even those who are supposed to be optimistic feel about the season.

some of you have been saying that the o-line won't be that horrible.

meanwhile, some juco from iowa may be offered a scholarship and he will start immediately at center and help provide stability on the offensive line.

if this kid signs and starts, then the situation
on the offensive line is far worse than

anyone thought and that's saying
something.

Thanks for your input, jort.

As a Vol fan, i refuse to ever think we will be completely out of the picture for winning. We may not have a national championship team this year, but i will never say we're gonna lose. We recruit too much talent year in and year out to think that way. All we need is some good coaching and we're right back in the thick of things. This remains to be seen with Dooley and company.

Looks like all he needs is one of those horned helmets and a double-bladed ax and he could be a Viking. Bring him to the middle of the line and let him smash people.

Viking, Schmiking.
Give the man the hammer of the Norse god Thor and watch him become a Big Orange god/superhero incarnate smashing Vol opponents to smithereens every football Shatterday! Even Odin would be proud.

The statement I responded to regarded us going after people nobody wants. Nobody wins in the SEC with a roster full of redheaded stepchildren.

Strickly speaking about players. This year depth and inexperience are our biggest obstacles going into the season. This kid is athletic and has a modicum of experience and could provide dept (even if it' off the bench) for 3 years. To add to that he qualified academically out of HS and it sounds like he wants to come to Tennessee and play, to me it’s a no brainer.
