'11 MI RB Justice Hayes

The argument being made was that if we get Hayes and Bigelow/Bellamy would we ask DY to grayshirt or walk. If we did get Hayes and Bigelow/Bellamy it only makes sense to ask DY to grayshirt. In that situation Bellamy/Bigelow are just as capable of returning punts and kickoffs as DY. Bellamy/Bigelow are better because they would have a bigger impact on offense by being our CJ Spiller and DY wouldn't have that same impact. I think we take Hayes because he could be a very good very down back. Next year we will have Poole and Neal who are any good, so if add Hayes and Smith it's good competition. Bellamy/Bigelow I don't really see as a running back since they would used in many different ways. If we don't get either Bellamy/Bigelow we keep DY.

You really believe Poole and Neal aren't any good? I believe It is the line play this year that has held us back in the running game. I dont think any back we get beats out Poole for the starting job next year. One may be a change of pace back but will not beat out Poole.

What I meant was that they are the only legit good backs we have, sorry I know my wording was kind of confusing.

Two reasons to take Hayes:

1. Has an Wisconsin offer, and Wisconsin knows a good back when they see one.

2. His first name is 'Justice,' 'nuff said!

im not saying he is or is not better than DY but honestly what have you seen that makes you think he is so good?

His film is pretty dang solid imo. I remember back in the spring we were talking about how Hayes, film was maybe the 2nd best we'd seen this year besides Crowell's. Young has 1 offer; Hayes has umpteen. And Hayes is rated very, very good by all the services.

Rivals- 4star, #84 Overall, #3 APB
ESPN- 4star, #22 RB
Scout- 4star, #118 Overall, #14 RB
24/7- 4star, #163 Overall, #16 RB
Lemming- #60 Overall, #9 RB

thank you for your input LV but what film are you talking about? the only film i have seem was of him getting chased down every play.

Guys we can debate forever about this but one thing we all can agree on is that we are in a good situation at running back.

Someone mentioned a bird in hand, is better than two in the bush. I concur.

First, when Bellamy last spoke, he said he was still 150% committed to Clemson. So, we are banking on CU's offensive staff getting fired, and the Bellamy opening back up his recruitment. Odds can not be in our favor.

Second, Bigelow might be 50-50 between us and Cal, but Cal has a huge distance factor! And all of those boasting history; well, in the last few years Cal has put the following speedsters into the league: Lynch, Jackson, and Best. So, not only do they have the distance, they can also sell him on being the next good one in that NFL pipeline they are establishing.

So, if Hayes wanted to commit, you take him without hesitation. You try to slow play a kid like this, or treat him as a back-up plan, then you can kiss him goodbye.

uh what reason did he bring? i really enjoy LV's insight as much as anyone else but all he said was people should reconsider. he did not say why.

He said that because he believes Hayes is better than DY as do many coaches around the country, which is easy to see when you compare their offer lists. DY actually lacks a list, he has one offer.

lol k.

and another thing is Young is NOT going to be a RB here so I dunno why he is in the discussion anyways. He is a KR/PR who will get the ball 2-3 times on offense in specific packages.

We shouldn't even consider DY a RB, at UT all he will be is a return specialist. I would rather have a guy who is a weapon on offense or defense as well as a great returner.

To the people who may not want Hayes or think he isn't any better than Devrin Young (LOL), need to re-think their opinions.

And what would be your reasoning? Yeah he has more offers, by big ten teams. He's ranked higher, but I just think this might be one they are missing on. His video to me isn't overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, dude is good. But I don't see with him what I see with other backs, even if they are ranked lower or have less offers. Perhaps the DY/Hayes could be put to rest at this point being that DY will probably be used all over the field. But Hayes (IMO) isn't in the same league with Bellamy or Bigelow. And I don't see that one step plant, hit the hole thing with him. He seems to have a little stutter step before cuts. Once again, my opinion. Perhaps we can debate this and see each others viewpoint respectfully. The dude from Michigan almost went Bin Laden on me earlier, LOL.

I was being sincere and that was a legitimate question. i also agree that DY is probably not going to contribute much at running back if at all.

Well, I think the main thing that started this was folks talking about who we need to cut if we get Hayes. I don't think he's worth cutting anyone over. Perhaps he's worth a scholly, but not if we have to cut someone.

He's right LV...the film on Rivals shows him getting run down on almost every play

FTR I think Hayes is excellent and we need him...but watching his Rivals film I couldn't help but think... "so this guy has "breakway speed" but Tom Smith doesn't?"
