'11 SC S Pat Martin - UT Signee

Yep. His line about UT providing an amazing opportunity and preparing him for the league says it all. I might question it if he had similar things to say about the Cocks but you can tell he is setting up SC fans to be dissapointed by making it a business decision.

I'm sure he would love to be close to family and friends but UT isn't that far away and is clearly the better opportunity. This year is as good a chance that SC will ever have to win anything. UT could be back on top by the time Martin is a So. or Jr.

There will be more drama between now and the 16th, so expect it. Sit back and relax. He is just building a little suspense to make his announcement more fun.

All Vol.

Think so? He did sound a little more pumped up about us in the VN article, just mentioning SC as the "home school" & that the coaches were always cracking jokes. Blah blah. I f'ing hope he's all Vol!

I Agree -- I read that report closely and the thing that stood out most to me was where he "evaluated" his reasons for attending each school.

The reasons for attending UT were all specific good things he liked about the coaches, their ability to put him in the NFL, the facilities, etc.. He spoke highly about several of our coaches.

The reasons he gave for selecting SCe were all general and vague -- home state school, all my family can watch me, named his recruiter there as being a cool guy.

All Vol, baby.

I know ppl will boo hoo me & say I only care about stars, but we gotta get Pat Martin. We gotta get a S/DB due to Myles Jr's screw up. In addition, we've got to get some top flight talent...a 4* for god's sake! It just sets a better tone. Recruits see a top guy commit, & they start to look harder. What top 10 at any position guy wants to join a recruiting class full of 3*'s?

I know that probably a few, & hopefully more than a few of our 3*'s will be upgraded to 4* by the end of it all, but I'm just saying...you know...just saying...

Players 7,8,9, and 10 for all purpose RB's are 3* at the moment. Rivals has been slacking this year with their updates, so let's see what the star situation looks like in the next couple of months.

From the people here in SC it does not seem like anyone thinks he is even remotely considering SC. I do not think he has even been to SC for any visits.

He has visited in the past, but not lately. Was scheduled to visit the week of the last UT camp, but cancelled.

Pat says he may move the date up to August 14th.

He's also inviting stalkers to suggest to him what hat to choose if you are on FB.

You should consider shortening your name to "Windy Vol".

Is USCe a serious contender? Seems the kid loves UT but keeps USCe in the discussion.

USCe is like inviting your cousin to the prom. You have no intentions of actually taking her, but somehow, it remains the emergency fall back plan in case your mack happens to fail. Fortunately, your mack faileth not.

I live near Martin and haven't heard much from the Gamecock faithful that leads me to believe USCe is really a serious contender. My impression is Martin likes the attention and the "game" but his heart is set on UT. Just wants to keep some suspense leading up to his announcement.

Not a chance. For all intents & purposes, I'm right. & everyone on here is waiting with baited breath for the first unanimously "elite" prospect to commit to us & give our recruiting class & new staff some traction & momentum. Regardless of whether it's short-sighted, perception is reality...

No worries. :hi:

If I were a 4* or 5*, which I'm not, I would 1) want to take all my official visits & enjoy recruiting; 2) wait to see what Tennessee does on the field this fall before I would commit. But that's just me.

You guys know what will happen when Martin commits right??

"but he is not a 5 star.. our class is AWFUL!!!! :cray::cray:"

Or "he doesn't have an impressive offer list", "Saban, Myer etc didn't persue him" etc

Ha! The other day, Pat was asking what hat he should pick up on his commitment day. Alan Posey just sent him a link to a TN hat. :cool2:

Lock this boy up. We are doing a great job addressing our needs first. Now it's time to add quality depth to our other positions. Pat, come on down!

& from what I'm hearing, Dooley is telling the more elite recruits to take their time, all the while staying on them about how UT is the place for them. I hope his patient, relationship-building approach leads to success either a) landing top recruits who are sick of coercion, or b) once a top guy commits, commits for the long haul, unlike guys that changed their mind (see Michael Taylor & Ambles) last year. (Yeah, I know, coaching change, but you know...I'm talking in principle).

i agree with you.

Unfortunately, many in VN interpret this to mean that Dooley is not going after the 4* & 5* players. That's just silly.
