'11 TN DB Derek King

Come on Dooley, don't stall out on the in-state guys....

I get the feeling this staff will make this a common practice. Offer the local instate kids just to make it look good. When it comes time to accept the offers....they will be singing a different tune. High Character or Shady dealings?

You obviously know absolutely nothing. Last year we signed two Tennessee kids. This year we currently have five committed and it would appear at least two more on the way, possibly three if they take King.

Just do us all a favor, log out and lose your password. You have no clue what you're talking about. Seriously.

Ridiculous. These threads get hijacked b/c someone thinks they know how recruiting is supposed to work. Keep your day job fellas.

:disappointed:

Simple, I speak to the 4-5 star young men to gage their interest. If they obviously want to go through the process and decide closer to signing day...I let him know we would love to have him and IF he decides he wants to be a Vol, I will offer him if I have space left. I would be sure to tell them to monitor our numbers and position needs. If a player tells me he knows he wants to be a VOL in the opening talks and I felt he was worth it....he gets an OFFER. Yes, I know people will say you can't do it this way....but, have we tried it? Something tells me your clas would tend to fill up alot faster, and some bigger names would come off the board a little sooner. JMO

Flame away!

I'm not trying to flame jsut interested in why or how you think that might work..

If a staff does not call kids they are interested in every week right up until signing day then the kid will likely head elsewhere. Even if a kid commits a year before signing day they have to keep calling or he could duck out of the commitment. Nothing to hold him and he starts thinking you are not interested and all those other schools still calling are interested.

I can't imagine any way what you are promoting would work.

If we did things his way we would be utter failures in the recruiting game. Everything in this post is true.

Horrible idea. College football is a business that's about winning and winning only. Getting the best players is how you win, if you piss off Billy Bob from Jellico in the process, too bad.

Good thing the state has more talent this year than years past- the two we got last year will end up playing on Sundays!

+1. Fans gotta look at this as a business. You want great results? Get used to the recruiting game.

lay off the guy please. if you stop replying to him he'll quit posting about it!!!!

if he's posting on this site this much then chances are he understands the recruiting process, and understands this happens.

He's just muckraking the fact that it's a dirty business. The guy has an opinion, don't let it get under your skin.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. I think everyone knows where he stands. Therefore, no need to keep posting the same opinion over and over. We got it. Not confused on his stance.

And there is no need for him to cry about it in 5 different threads in the recruiting forum. It's beyond stale.

Anyway back to topic. Has anyone heard more info about King announcing at BA? Was this a rumor or has it been confirmed? I know Hubbs or someone over at TOS has probably investigated this further... Any news here?

Basically what happened is King told some friends at school that he wanted to go to Tennessee but he was still listening to other schools & those friends ran & text their dads & it got out that King "commited" to TN. Hubbs said that King does have TN on top as of right now but the staff doesnt want to take his commitment at thist time.

Thanks, I figured it was something like that. I am curious if King will get the chance to be a Vol. His recruitment has been strange to say the least.

Wonder if King could be a greyshirt candidate? Haven't heard anything about it, but if he is that determined to come to school here it wouldn't be a bad option for us to have additional depth locked in.

Hey YOU...you be you and I'll be me ok?...lol...GBO!

His job is to get as many talented players to UT as quickly as possible. Recruiting is messy business everywhere. Kids de-commit at the last minute. Schools pull commitments at the last minute. Kids give soft verbals or verbals but with an intent to keep taking visits and schools give conditional offers.

What is shady about telling a kid that they have an offer but that offer is contingent upon certain things happening over time?

Are you really this naive over how recruiting works or are you just determined to find something to criticize the staff for?

No, actually my only issue is the recruiting and the cutting kids with OFFERS loose after telling them they could be a Vol. And to your comment about Offers are given with the explanation that they are dependent on this or that happening is someting I doubt. Otherwise...why would the kid not call and speak to the staff before going public with his decision? I get the fact this fake offer thing goes on at alot of schools....that does not make it ok.

Something else to think about. I see alot of topics talking about new recruits and why the staff has not offered them. Alot of people claim the staff is looking at them or considering them..and an offer will come or maybe they will not get one. With the way this staff has been recruiting with fake offers....why not just call and offer every recruit in the country? Maybe we could then get in 1st on some and then the lower rated ones we can just stop answering calls from. Hey, I'm sure some would be down for it. LOL
