Did you get your Cam Newton information from the Auburn board? :eek:k: :crazy: There is a recorded phone conversation out there. WE(MState) recorded it and gave it to the SEC office. Should have never gone public with any of it IMO. However, State did nothing wrong in recruiting Cam Newton, and that has been repeatedly proven. We just lost the PR battle from the fallout of it all, hence your misstated opinion on the matter. Personally, in hindsight, it would have been the best $180k ever spent, and we may have actually hung a banner :loco:...

Bringing up a story from 2004, 2 coaching staff changes ago, is a pretty big stretch to imply that we are currently a dirty program. "Our Truth" about 2004 case, which is in ongoing litigation, can be found here: Jackie's Justice | The case of Jackie Sherrill vs. the NCAA, RIch Johanningmeier, Mark P. Jones, Julie Gibert, et al The NCAA spent 3 years on campus from 01-04 and basically destroyed our program that was JUST becoming legit for the first time ever(98,99,00). You guys know better than most about how the NCAA snooping around messes up business as usual, and your the traditional powerhouse, Tennessee...not traditional bottom dweller, Mstate. Total NCAA findings against us after 3 years: "The committee found members of the Mississippi State football program improperly reimbursed prospective student-athletes for recruiting trips, giving recruits and their families money for hotel rooms and rental cars. An assistant coach arranged to pay for the summer school classes a recruit needed to become eligible and a booster allowed two recruits to stay in a hotel in Starkville for free."

So, they found practically nothing overall. They had it out for Sherrill from his shenanigans at Pitt and A&M. Now, that said, our program under Sherrill was dirty. No doubt about it. We prettymuch went through a prolonged version of Kiffin drama! Glad they never actually "found the bodies." :mega_shok:

Mullen has thusfar played things pretty clean. He doesn't want to be labeled a cheater here, when it's clear he hopes for a bigger job down the road. I realize you guys are suspicious about Autry, and if the roles were reversed, I probably would be too. He's the FIRST surprise(calling it that is a stretch from our side, we've known he was very interested in us since late Nov, and as of Monday, I had it at 60/40 he goes to Tn) recruit we've gotten under Mullen, and we have lost MANY in much more questionable ways than this(3 to OM and 1 to AUB last year).

Either way...sorry for the long history lesson...and good luck in the rest of your recruiting season. Pulling for you guys to get that program back up to the levels it needs to be. The SEC is a better place overall with a strong Tennessee!

I think we should move on from the overreaction. Move on from the recruit? I think that's stupid. I'm the type of person that wants a staff that won't quit until NSD. It was UT or MSU. If something happens, and we aren't there in the thick of things, we'd be sorry.

Dude, he's an EE which means it's not a National Signing Day for him. He will sign a LOI in a day or two......let's move on to other recruits!!!

2. His juco is only 20 miles from Starkville- so he knows full well where he is going and has been hanging out there for awhile.

3. The McPhee story is true- Thanksgiving weekend is when he changed his mind. They bonded, and Autry saw he could take the same path.

Oh yeah, MSU is so great. They have won so many National Championships and SEC championships. When you get on the same level as UT, then you can post. Until then.. hop off the nuts.

Not the decision I would have made, but I admit to being biased. I hope he's happy there and wish him success, unless he's playing us. In those games, I hope he fails greatly. At this point, I just hope D. Jacobs stays committed. Hopefully Autry isn't in his ear about joining him at MSU, or if he is, I hope Jacobs tells him hell no.

In the end, this is how recruiting goes. It sucks when you think you have a great player locked up only to have him choose someone else. In the crazy world of recruiting, he still has time to change his mind. Hopefully he's having Big Orange dreams right now or nightmares of having to listen to those damn cowbells all year. That alone should make any kid reconsider MSU, lol. But it is what it is. Hopefully we can get in on HS DE that will choose us come NSD. Worst part to me, losing an EE. Having a guy in for spring practice and the strength/conditioning program cannot be underestimated.

Everyone here thinks we are still going to land Jacobs because the insider that told them Autry was a lock for UT says so. Take their insults with a grain of salt.
