It would be if it was not for a recorded phone conversation with Cam Newton's dad and someone linked to the MSU program.
Then there is this little nugget.
Mississippi State gets four years probation : Fanblogs College Football Blog
Time to move on from this guy. Other players we need to focus on
I think we should move on from the overreaction. Move on from the recruit? I think that's stupid. I'm the type of person that wants a staff that won't quit until NSD. It was UT or MSU. If something happens, and we aren't there in the thick of things, we'd be sorry.
I know what happened. It was Autry's visit to Miami last weekend that convinced him that Starkville was a magic place....
Some facts you guys need to know:
1. Autry has been telling the State staff for 3 weeks he was coming to State. This wasnt a surprise to State fans
2. His juco is only 20 miles from Starkville- so he knows full well where he is going and has been hanging out there for awhile.
3. The McPhee story is true- Thanksgiving weekend is when he changed his mind. They bonded, and Autry saw he could take the same path.
4. Mullen isnt going anywhere
5. We have won more games than you guys the last 2 years, and will continue to do so as long as Dooley is your coach.
6. Say goodbye to Jacobs too- he is dating a girl on campus- and with All-SEC DT Fletcher Cox most likely leaving for the draft this April- he sees a starting spot for him on one of the SEC's best defenses next year.
7. Correction- Cam Newton was not offered anything- he asked for 180K...we turned it into the NCAA. We arent paying anybody squat- so stop with the butthurt allegations.

I hope this young man made his decision on what he wanted, and not on what someone else wanted for him. I don't begrudge a recruit for choosing another school. You don't get everyone you want. But if he has been telling the coaches he's a Vol only to drop this on them today, then I do not respect his refusing to take their phone calls. If he feels the coaches lied to him, like someone previously suggested, then he could at least take their phone call and tell them that. I hope, for his sake, that there was nothing shady going on either. None of us know all the facts, unless Autry reads this board, but if he made this decision because he truly felt more comfortable at MSU, then good luck to him. Not the decision I would have made, but I admit to being biased. I hope he's happy there and wish him success, unless he's playing us. In those games, I hope he fails greatly. At this point, I just hope D. Jacobs stays committed. Hopefully Autry isn't in his ear about joining him at MSU, or if he is, I hope Jacobs tells him hell no.
In the end, this is how recruiting goes. It sucks when you think you have a great player locked up only to have him choose someone else. In the crazy world of recruiting, he still has time to change his mind. Hopefully he's having Big Orange dreams right now or nightmares of having to listen to those damn cowbells all year. That alone should make any kid reconsider MSU, lol. But it is what it is. Hopefully we can get in on HS DE that will choose us come NSD. Worst part to me, losing an EE. Having a guy in for spring practice and the strength/conditioning program cannot be underestimated.
