'12 TN ATH Sheldon Dawson

Would we take Dawson and Redmond as DBs and be done at that postiion?

Dawson and Redmond are both definite takes IMO. Both are elite athletes that bring alot to the table. Both are in-state players that are explosive offensive weapons in high school.

However, they both seem to project as DBs in college. I think they would both play CB at UT.

I am not sure about UT only taking 2 DBs though. I know they are still high on some safetys such as Diggs, etc. I think they also like Blanc to some degree at DB, but IMO he is behind Redmond and Dawson on UT's board.

#57 CB on ESPN:

Dawson is a scheme versatile, athletic defensive back and also a promising running back. Football fast on defense. Lacks great size. Is a bit high cut but may be more coveted on the recruiting trail if he had an extra inch or two of height. Very active and productive underneath defender with a nose for the football. Closes fast and aggressively. Displays very good underneath range and pursuit speed. Has a ball-hawk feel to his game and could develop into a productive nickel back. Plays the game with a fast and physical style of play. Does a good job anticipating the pass and breaking underneath. Shows solid explosion out of his pedal and plant and drive skill. Deep ball awareness skills are good. However, angles can be rounded on pursuit and out of breaks. Would like to see him clean his transitional skills. Would benefit from more sink in his hips to help shift weight when opening to turn and run. Smoother coming out of his pedal breaking underneath than flipping his hips to run vertically. For his aggressive Cover 2 zone style, he will need to add more size and upper-body strength to continue getting of the stalk block, setting the edge and pressing today's bigger college receivers. A quick and electric runner on offense who projects as a change-of-pace or multi-purpose back. A quick hitter who can dart through a seam just as it opens or take the stretch play outside and threaten the corner. Does not give defenders a clean shot. Shows good burst through second level. Quicker than fast but still a threat with his great lateral movements, change-of-direction and loose hips. Overall, Dawson is a quick and savvy athlete and quality skill prospect who could add value on both sides of ball if he finds the right system fitting scheme.

One last night on Memphis athlete Sheldon Dawson said he had a good visit to Tennessee and that he'll be making a decision on Aug. 1 between Tennessee, Ole Miss and Arkansas.

I'm saying Ole Miss.

I'd like to have Dawson though. Kinda reminds me of Teague. Could be a good DB by his JR season.

I still think it all depends on what CDD told him. If they will take him as a RB..he is a VOL. If they want him as a DB....he's going to Ole Miss IMO.

You would think the guys who interview these kids could drop that lil question in there. "Is Tennessee looking at you at RB or DB"? His answer would answer our questions I think.

I think Dawson could become a good DB way faster than his JR season. Dawson's CB film really impressed me. I think he can play and he doesn't even realize his potential on defense yet.

It's possible yes, I think that he would be a better DB than RB. I like his overall potential at DB.

This may end up with him staying in Memphis. I hope I'm wrong because that would be a HUGE waste!

The signs definately appear to be pointing towards Memphis. I have to agree with others, Dawson staying home to play for the Tigers seems like a waste. Best of luck to him wherever he ends up.
