During the summer, it was believed that Ole Miss and TN were pretty much the 2 mainly in the running with Arky just outside of that. He barely mentioned Memphis when talking back then. He did not perform very well at a few camps late in the summer and the word was that a few schools slowed up a little on him. He wanted to commit and I believe Memphis was the school willing to take at the time. I have also heard that there was some family pushing for him to stay close.
He has had a pretty decent season so far on a team loaded with talent that has not lived up to the hype. With Memphis in the dumps, it is not hard to imagine him looking to jump ship if the big schools come calling again.
but i dont know about the whole thing on schools not taking him.
We and Ole Miss definitely would of taken him
Local chatter in Memphis. Saw similar info coming from several boards. Even Memphis board to my recollection seemed to believe that they got him as a steal.
Again, not from what I heard around Memphis.

I feel bad for this kid if he wants to stay with Memphis. They are freaking terrible. No other way to put it. When you get pounded by Arkansas State and your only win is against Austin Peay, you suck at football.

"I'm going to try to catch the Tennessee-LSU game (Saturday in Knoxville)," Dawson said. "And I'm going to try to go to an Ole Miss game."
"I'm definitely going to Cincinnati, Tennessee and Memphis," Dawson said. "Tennessee is telling me I'll be a running back or corner, but I believe they're recruiting me as a corner. Cincinnati is recruiting me as a running back. Memphis is recruiting me at both. I like offense, but I'm also doing good on the defensive side."
What did they say on rivals about Dawson?
The Vols, in particular, told Dawson after his commitment that they would still pursue him.
"Tennessee, they told they were still going to come after me. They told me that off the top. But, I kind of knew," Dawson said.
Dawson continues to hear from Tennessee's coaching staff and hopes to make a visit after his season. He said the reason he remains so interested in the Vols because of the feeling he had around the staff during a visit this past summer.
"I just like the whole staff. I visited Tennessee this summer already, but I haven't been back up there. I just feel a connection with the coaching staff. I like what they've got going on there, the system coach (Derek) Dooley staff has going on," Dawson said.
Along with Tennessee, Dawson hopes to visit Cincinnati, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Georgia after the season.
