im as optomistic as the best kool aid drinker but the numbers arent on our side this recruiting cycle.

Unless we hit on some incredible Coups, we will not end up in the top 20 nationally.

this class will be too small ,and as of now, we arent in tops of enough elite prospects that would boost a small class into the upper echelon nationally

Yeah, where are all these top 20 or top 25 class predictions coming from? The last two classes were 9th and 12th or 13th, we better be top 10 or right at it!

Well your point isn't backed up by your recruiting assertion. I'll give you the answer since you've avoided the question. ZERO. So how would we be only marginally better than a team with zero recruiting classes in the top 25 at any point, unless we are recruiting in the 45 area such as they are?

Jay...come on man...read my post (#120) about what it takes to finish in the top 15...let alone the top 20 (per Rivals)

Long story short...you don't have to be overly optimistic to expect top 15...let alone top 20

That is my biggest concern. There are not enough top guys even talking about Tennessee. There are even more of them who mentioned us early...but have since went elsewhere. There is just not the talk of the Vols this year enough to make me think this class will be special.

like I said, we may land some big surprises that could change things but right now, I dont see it


and Im not being negative,but by all accounts we are taking a small class

You can recover from one mediocre recruiting year if you've had some good years to back it up. The last two classes were very strong and the team is very, very young. For that reason, I think we'll be alright. We'll have to hit in 2013, and we're in a great spot for that class so far.

Top classes don't guarantee success, either. Texas and Florida weren't very good last year and they're almost always top 5 or top 10 in the NSD rankings.

But whatever. Everyone can crap themselves over what our "class ranking" is, but the bottom line is that if we don't win games on the field, who cares?

Recruiting is important. Getting talented players are important. But recruiting rankings don't necessarily translate to Ws.

EDIT: Sheldon Dawson translates to Ws!

Yeah, you did. The point is, we will have a full class this year. We will get guys so how is complaining about only having 3 commits in June helping your argument? Do you not think we can get enough guys to fill a class?

Please enlighten me. Because to me and others it seems you simply have unrealistic expectations.

And if you do not think we can fill a class, then why even follow recruiting? Just to have something to complain about? Is that the way you go through life?

I think we sign 20 this year. I don't think they all have to be amazing players. I want CDD to improve the roster. If the class ranks out at 50th, I won't care if we land some good prospects in the front 7 on D. Other than that I don't give a rat's arse about rankings this year.

And as long as we fill our needs on the front 7 on D, then add a few more playmakers on offense I won't care what our ranking is.

Let me give you a statistic to put this into perspective. I spoke with a guy who talked with a coach the other day. He said the coach told him out of 60 or so odd SEC commits so far less than 20 are guys we would have taken. That's how choosy this staff is being right now.

Even 8 would land us safely in the top 15 according to Rivals...6 would land us in the top 20

Trust me...I've got the math and statistics on my side

By the end of the year I believe we'll be packed with good players. The coaches have to be careful with having so few slots. Don't want to take a commitment and have to ask them to look around. Why not wait for the better players? if we miss then theres others who will jump at the chance

For the record we have 2 commits.

My expectations are simple. I expect us to compete with ALL SEC teams when it comes to recruiting. Yes we have positions of need and if the talk about Tennessee with the best DTs/LBs/and DEs was there...I would feel alot better. IT IS NOT! I have no doubt we will have a full class as I have stated there are enough solid kids who want to play in the SEC. Does that mean we did well in recruiting?? NO! If you look at the HUGE list of kids that Tennessee was supposed to be "in their top 5" and have missed on...it is cause for concern.
