'12 TN ATH Sheldon Dawson

I totally agree.

Yeah, I mean in most years I want/expect to see a top 15 class or better, but this isn't a year where I think we can expect that. With limited spots all we need to worry about is filling our needs on D and not worry about where we're ranked.

So, what do you guys think about Sheldon Dawson the corner from memphi...ah screw it, where's my popcorn, ok carry on.

By the end of the year I believe we'll be packed with good players. The coaches have to be careful with having so few slots. Don't want to take a commitment and have to ask them to look around. Why not wait for the better players? if we miss then theres others who will jump at the chance

Keep waiting and all the "better players" have already come off the board while our staff is "getting to know" the diamond in the rough.

Perhaps then we should hire you as a consultant because it's obvious you could do a better job than the coaches. I know, I hate it when people say that, but there it is.

There is method behind this madness. It will show itself in time if it already isn't.

Let me give you a statistic to put this into perspective. I spoke with a guy who talked with a coach the other day. He said the coach told him out of 60 or so odd SEC commits so far less than 20 are guys we would have taken. That's how choosy this staff is being right now.

Seems credible. I'll buy it.

 Why is this so hard

I decided to retire at 35 and am currently not looking for work. If I get bored enough on here complaining about our lack of recruits and lack of being a team that competes in the SEC...I will make the call. I will be sure to list you as a reference. :hi:

You show your ignorance every time you post. There are plenty of talent that we are still being discovered that you nor I have even heard of. Its one thing to disagree with people on here but you don't just disagree you have to a a@& about everything.

haha Right. That's why I threw it out there. Take it or leave it.

I was just messing, Sab.

On the topic at hand, I'll go on record saying I believe UT lands a Top-15 class.

I also like Dawson's CB film more than just about any other recruit out there outside of Geno.

It is true though. How well you recruit compared to your conference rivals matters much more than how you do nationally.

No it isn't. The marginal differences across the SEC, as long as they're fairly tightly bunched make no difference at all. The difference is made by how many bust and how many become true stars. Last year's class was our best in nearly a decade.

Staying on par with the top guys will get us our share of the prizes. We keep recruiting like last year and we'll be fine.

+1

And if we have 3 recruits come August, any talk of poor recruiting will be followed with "Its only August".

"Its Only Jan 28th" NSD is a week away"...."7 commits does not worry me!" :eek:lol:..I may have went to far with that one.

last year in the 10 days before NSD we got commitments from Marlin Lane, Byron Moore, Cam Clear, Curt Maggitt, and Anonio Richardson.

Oh, I know, but your point was valid.

I sure hope you are right. We finish twentieth this year I'm happy. Top fifteen I'm elated.

You will be elated, IMO

Look at what Thunder posted folks, we'll be in the top 15. Bet the house on it.

You're 35?

OMG...that makes your posting history look so much worse...

It was annoying but understandable when I thought you were just young and inexperienced

I have an idea. We should make a thread about our seemingly sub-par recruiting where we can debate the topic.

Yes, I am 35. I know how recruiting works and that is why I am not content being a middle of the SEC kind of team. Our current recruiting would actually be a LAST in the SEC kind of team. No worries, Its only June!

I don't understand how it is that difficult to grasp the idea that recruiting will pick up a the year moves on. Camps and evaluations will be over for the most part and players will start visiting campus for ball games.
