'12 TN ATH Will Redmond (MSU verbal commit)

Once again I try to tell people this about the Memphis kids. Most know about and like UT football. Im not saying it makes them locks or anything, its just not some foreign land where they hate UT, like some believe. A few years of building good relationships with Memphis again is all we need.[/QUOTE]

This is spotty. Yes some Memphis kids like UT (I was one of them), but for every Tennessee friend I had, there was also a Florida, Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Memphis, Arkansas, State, Kentucky, North Carolina, Texas fan too... A lot of kids hate UT because they like these other schools, just like I hate Bama. Memphis is just weird in that the city is a huge mix of teams and 4 SEC schools are closer than UT.

I currently live in the Memphis area. And the sports radio here is not the ut- friendliest area in the state I know that. Kinda depressing

It is still the dominate football team by far. The local Memphis media favors Memphis and intentionally leaves UT out a lot. Plus there are a lot of people that have moved here due to the tri-state location and being a large city, which causes there to be a lot of other fans like ole miss. Still, the point is, by far, most of these kids know and like UT football. Memphis is a weird city, I agree, however UT and memphis are still by far the dominate teams. If you go back and read all the memphis recruits threads you see most of them say they like UT football and only a few mention other schools.

Also, I think Dawson had several bad camps in July, including UT's. I've seen both of them play this year. Both are good prospects.

I feel the need to mention; I'm no OCI or anything, but I do have a good feeling they leave campus Sunday as verbal commits.

Wouldn't shock me too much on Dawson. Think he's liked UGA for a while. Not sure about Redmond. BTW, my comment a few posts up was referring to the fact that he would be a Dawg either way (either as an MSU or UGA commit).

Knoxville is tied 8th closest to Memphis with Missouri in the sec. It's actually ten miles closer to LSU than UT.

It's definitely a melting pot, but UT and Ole Miss are the top dogs in Memphis IMO. Although I'm seeing a ton of "life-long Bama fans" popping up.

i don't see that happening after this weekend. redmond has a number of visits scheduled after this weekends visit. i hope we make a good enough impression that we do garner his commitment down the road.[/QUOTE
