12 TN RB I'tavius Mathers

This news sounded strange to me so I got info from somebody very close to the situation. The response was that Mathers still does not have interest in UT. Would be very, very surprised if he even takes a visit to UT.

I think he is go enough to start against NC State.

But I am admittedly biased.

For the good of the Big Orange Nation, I just want to see us patch up this "UT" problem in middle Tennessee. In particular, the Rutherford County six big schools...Riverdale, Oakland, Siegal, Blackman, Smyrna & Lavergne. We need to be pulling in 2 or 3 recruits from those schools each and every year.

And 1 or so a year from Maryville/Alcoa.

Yeah, I am ok with that.

Last night, I actually printed out and counted on the roster. There were 14 on there from what I call 'middle Tennessee'. And I probably over looked a couple where I didn't recognize their town or school.

So we are better than I thought. Therefore, I withdraw my rant about the middle Tennessee thing. We are doing ok in that regard.

I would love to get Mathers. The guy looks awesome on film ( I know that TN doesn't have the greatest comp level, but that area of the state is pretty good). I am really disappointed with Jelks commitment to Vandy too. It would be good for the program to create a sense of state school loyalty in TN. I know the way our state is formed geographically makes it a different situation than other states. Memphis is further from Knoxville than Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinatti, Birmingham, Columbia, ect. Nashville is very close to schools like Vandy (duh), Bamer, KY, ect. Basically it is harder to set up "a fence" around TN than it is Louisiana (as best example under Saban earlier) and some other states.

I have heard a lot about AT but this is my first time seeing him. This boy can really run. His cuts are so crisp and he reads blocks so well. Manchild and a must get.

That block at 0:52 is nasty!

Yeah, that was really nasty.

That is one heck of video!

And remember, he is playing 6A football in Tennessee, the largest high schools, and in one of the toughest district. I saw Tullahoma in there, I saw the Brentwood Bruins, I saw Oakland (red jerseys and red pants), I saw Siegal and he was just killing Lincoln County there...(they have the red helmets). It almost looks like a three stooges film at times....whoop, whoop, whoop, nyuk....I really like the high snaps, where the QB just hands him the ball and he makes it all up as he goes. The cuts are...wow

And he just drops or hands the ball to the referee when he gets to the end zone....cause he been there a few times before.

Can you picture him in an orange jersey making all those SEC clowns look like that? Now THAT would be a lot of fun!

Now that I look at that again, those first 4-5 runs are all at Tullahoma. That juke he makes at 1:37 in funny as can be. The guy that got decleated with the block at 0:52 is a Tullahoma guy. Good I say!!!

Yeah, he reminds me of Cadillac Williams. He, like Arian Foster, isn't the fastest one of the bunch, but he sure does make up for it with good vision, patience behind his blockers and subtle moves to get into open space.

I saw a few plays where it looked like the defense had things bottle up pretty well, even two defenders having a good crack at him, and he just squirts through the pile and onto paydirt.

I'd rather the Vols focus on him than Davis, to be honest. When you watch both of their highlight films, it doesn't seem like there is any comparison. Davis' film has him routinely getting only short yardage gains, and an occasional breakaway. Whereas Mathers is one BIG play after another, after another, etc. etc.

I agree, but because Mathers plays in TN, he'll be ranked lower than a Florida kid.

Riverdale and Franklin also in that video.

I don't make judgments about kids talent or character very often on here but I am going to say something now that I am guessing won't be very popular.

With what I know about Mathers' Character and what I have read about Davis and all that drama, I want Mathers as a member of this class and call it a day for RBs.

Mathers from all accounts is a first class kid and maybe not the talent of Davis but I am stating now that Mathers is my choice.

I think you could call it a class on RB with Mathers/Davis/etc. and Hill.

yeah seriously screw him. I don't care that I was born and raised to hate Alabama... if they recruited me hard to play football I'd atleast go on a visit there and see how things were. Would I end up there? Not likely.. but wouldn't be as hard headed as this kid for likely retarded reasons.

Bunch of big men around here.. all of these recruits are HIGH SCHOOLS kids. Totally out of line to say "screw him" and act like butthurt 12 year olds. Get over it, there will be more. SMH. Tennessee is not for everyone and that is good thing

It is their future, not yours. They are the ones who have to live with thier decisions, if they arent feeling it, they arent feeling.. no need to flame high schoolers
