'12 TN RB Jovon Robinson

I believe he just got his 4th star recently on Scout and is ranked the 21st RB.

In areas for improvement they list elusiveness, but id say he's pretty elusive for a guy his size. Really shifty

Yeah but he can develop his techniques and vision once he gets some good coaching, which would help raise that ceiling a little.

Didn't see his junior stats posted, only his sophomore year.

Had 2196 yds ,36 TD's on 232 carries

I think this may be a situation where he and Cross are similar size backs. With Cross deciding to be a Vol early..I think Robinson will be headed elsewhere. I think we will take another back...but it will be the smaller, faster style of runner(Kimbrow).

impressive offers. would be tough to see him go elsewhere, but I guess it's evidence of where we sit with RBs in this class. Pretty good.

Cool quote from Robinson from Rex's thread on the FB board.

http://www.volnation.com/forum/tenn...7764-ccb-has-quickly-become-my-favorites.html

“The message (Baggett) was really trying to give out to me was really, like, ‘We need Jovon Robinson,’” said Robinson, who admittedly liked Florida growing up. “That’s really what he was saying.

“These were his exact words: He said, ‘This “T” right here means more than Memphis,’” Robinson added, imitating Baggett pointing to a UT logo on his shirt. “I can go to Memphis and get a degree from Memphis and all that. But he was like, if I go to Tennessee and get a degree from Tennessee, I can go anywhere and work. I was listening to that.

“He was telling the truth.”

It's really hard to tell, Lynx. I don't know why they took Cross' commitment so early. I mean, he's a good player -- I'm not saying that -- I just don't know with the limited spots we have this year, why they didn't wait and see if they could get two guys they like more.

I cannot see them taking 3 RBs this year but perhaps they will since Kimbrow isn't a traditional every down back. (assuming we even get him which I think we will)

Just scratching my head. I really like Robinson. He's a guy you can hand the ball to and know he's going forward.

I think Cross is a workhorse but I like Robinson also. Kimbrow to me is a situational RB/slot/return guy. I could see us taking all three.

Exactly. We all know Kimbrow is top of the board for the staff and an obvious take. I haven't really analyzed Cross, but given everyone's take on him, he is a really big guy and will work. That's 2 RBs right there, and I don't see us having room for anymore given our numbers and the depth we already have. But, if we have a coach like Baggett feeding him speeches like the one posted above, it's hard to see why we haven't offered him. Plus, these guys aren't even top RBs in the nation, let alone the south. I expect our coaches to at least attempt to stay on the top RBs.

I think they took the commitment from Cross as they needed a bigger back, and he filled the need. I actually like the idea of trying to fill the class sooner rather than later. While the build up to NSD is exciting, I would be just fine with the class being 100% done 2 weeks before. The staff obviously thought Cross could play in the SEC and he was ready to be a Vol Now. These kids looking for that Tennessee offer or are wanting to play for the Vols may need to understand not everyone in the world will wait on them.

I think Dooley does too. We need to remember when January rolls around not to expect the big signing day surprises, because Dooley doesn't just throw hot sauce on guys. If they're coming to UT, they'll most likely either be commits before NSD or they'll have visited multiple times and have strong relationships with the staff.

I am not real sure what is going on with Robinson. Back at the first of the Spring, I was told not to expect UT to do much with him. It seems like that is still holding true, but we do seem more interested in him now than we ever have.

From what I heard, Tennessee likes Mathers more than any other RB in the state.
