Loved his visit, I've read. Said he could see himself at Tennessee and plans to come back in the summer. Really likes Sunseri. Loves the atmosphere, academics, etc. Also, dismissively referred to Vandy as "OK" in the same interview.
LB & OL are our biggest needs. I like where we stand with Ngakoue and team mate Derwin Gray. Both had a great visit and since have frequently expressed how impressed they are with Tennessee. Like to have both back this summer.
"It was good. The personnel, the way they run their system was real good. I like Tennessee," Ngakoue said.
"I really found out how I would be used if I went to Tennessee and coach Sal, I saw how he coached when he was coaching his players and I like the way he coaches because he pushes them. That's what really stood out to me," Ngakoue said.
"Right now I'm just taking things slow. I'll probably get a top five by the beginning of the season and make a decision by signing day," Ngakoue said.
One reason Tennessee intrigues Ngakoue so much is that they're currently playing the role of an underdog.
"Really, I just like they're on the rebuilding process and the program's trying to get back on top. That's what I like about it. They're the underdog," Ngakoue said.
Ngakoue is a big body at the linebacker position and takes up a lot of space but don't mistake him for slow. He was able to pick up running backs out of the backfield and was never out of position during 7-on-7 drills. Even when running backs tried to pull a double move on him Ngakoue had the agility and speed to keep pace. Overall, Ngakoue showed impressive range and skills in space, something he needed to improve from past camps. He can seemingly turn and run with most any running back. His length and big body blocks out the sun in coverage.
