13' PF Johnathan Williams III

JW3 visiting Mizzou for the UGA game officially. fyi

Some pretty heavy competition for UT...

"(Missouri) uses their small forward in a way that (Williams III) likes," Johnny Williams said. "Outside shooting, mid-range, in transition. That's what we're looking at. At 6-9, they compare him to Lamar Odom."

Johnny Williams said the family was impressed with last week's trip to Georgetown. Williams III is also trying to cement a visit date to Michigan State, with the fifth and final visit still being up in the air.

Recruiting is getting very interesting. JW3 is the one I feel least confident about. Like the other post mentioned, he'd fit in nicely in Mizzous offense. Also, G-Town and UT actually are not that different, especially defense. I think we'll be respected in the same views as Georgetown when people discuss good D every year that Martin coaches us. Hubbs is worrying me but I still think he's just along for the ride. Nichols will be a Vol.

It's what happens when you mess with top 50 talent, most of the time it's a roller coaster...

I've heard different people who are usually pretty reliable say hubbs is ours, others think Nichols and others think Jw3. Then you hear Leroy and we aren't even in it for any of them.

Point being, everyone has their own opinions, however most of these writers aren't that well in the know from what I've gathered. Lewis for example, the whole Nichols family knows who he is and ultimately what his motives are. So when he calls or comes around, you can bet they are careful not to shed too much info on any school, especially Tennessee. The people who I put the most stock into are your proven insiders....Quinn, galilee etc.

Also, the whole Hubbs to UT rumors were strong enough for Hubbs to come out and say it's wide open. He might be more on the hush, hush because people in his circle are talking. Either way, if I was a top 50 recruit and people like Howland, Calipari, and Bill Self were calling me, I'd for sure enjoy it. His next moves will pretty much dictate what's going on and give us a better understanding of the situation.

As for JW3, I guess I don't feel as good about him because he's been so darn quiet during the whole process.

I think we (Mizzou) recently got back in the running with JW3. Not sure where we stand, it was surprising that he will be at the game, since a in-home visit was scheduled for Sunday originally. It may have been his friend Wesley Clark (#47) giving us a verbal. Who knows, maybe he just wants to, like yall said, visit all the schools he can for free and see some good games.

I just hope this game is good to us, we have injuries on our already thin O line. But the environment should be fantastic, no matter the outcome.

I really wouldn't be surprised if JW3 committed to a school like MU when all is said and done. He is an atypical Frank Haith type of recruit.

Actually JWIII is still high on Georgetown. Memphis is sort of back in the picture after getting committments from King and Crawford. Mizz is still in there though.

Yep, I'd say that GTown is probably the leader, but not far enough ahead for it to be a forgone conclusion. Knowing how Haith likes to recuit and knowing JW3's proclivities, they mesh the best.

Haith's system is very "laissez faire" and I think that freedom to play the role he wants is something that JW3 will appreciate.

+10 points for use of "laissez-faire" in a sports forum!

Great coach. I think I'd comitt to Izzo before any other coach in the country. Will be interesting to see how hard they push for him.

Not if you wanted the article or not, but here it is.

After returning home from an official visit to Missouri this past weekend 2013 PF Johnathan Williams III 6’10” 212 Memphis (TN) Southwind took a few minutes to update ShowMeMizzou.com regarding his Missouri visit and his recruitment.

“(The visit) went pretty good,” said Williams, speaking of his Missouri visit. “I really liked the campus.”

“One of my old friends from back home, Laurence Bowers, was my host,” explained Williams, who was accompanied on his visit by his parents. “(Bowers) knew my brother very well, and he worked with me when I was younger. So, I knew him, and we talked about a lot of things. He gave me the tour.”

“Coming in, (Missouri) pretty much shocked me,” said Williams, speaking of his impression of Missouri. “They have great facilities. The coaching is great. I mean, their style of play, four out and one in, that seems like my type of game. They have a great strength and condition guy. The campus is pretty nice, too.”

“Missouri has great fans, from what I saw of them,” said Williams, who was able to attend the Missouri-Georgia football game.

Williams said that his parents liked the Missouri coaching staff, and the Missouri program.

Williams averaged 5.4 points/game and 4.6 rebounds/game for the USA U16 National Team that captured the gold medal at the 2011 FIBA Americas Championships. This June, he was named to the 2012 U17 World Championship Team.

As a junior at Southwind, Williams averaged 15.7 points/game, 10.2 rebounds/game, 2.6 assists/game, and 1.1 steals/game on their way to a 28-5 record and the state quarterfinals, following which he was named first-team all-state.

As a sophomore, Williams averaged 17.3 points/game, 11.5 rebounds/game, 2.1 assists/game, and 3 blocked shots/game, while shooting 52% from the field, 48% from 3-PT land, and 80% from the FT line, as Southwind finished third in the state tournament with 26-6 record.

As a freshman, Williams averaged 10.2 points/game and9.5 rebounds/game, as Southwind finished second in the state tournament with a 26-5 record.

Williams’ high school coach, Paul Edwards, said that Williams “loved his visit” to Missouri.

“He comes from a great family,” said Coach Edwards, continuing to speak of Williams. “He’s an honor student. That was the first thing he told me about Missouri. He said, “The academics are nice, coach!”

Coach Edwards said that he compares Williams to a young Lamar Odom.

“He’s a lefty,” said Coach Edwards, describing Williams’ game. “He handles it. He shoots the ball well from the three, mid-range, as well as on the inside. He’s a good passer. He likes to lead the break. He’ll get the board and lead the break.”

During the summer, Williams plays for Memphis YOMCA.

Coach Edwards said that there has been a parade of college coaches through his gym this week.

Williams, who goes by the nickname J3, has also taken an official visit to Georgetown, and has plans to take official visits to Tennessee (9-14), Michigan State (9-28), and Texas (10-12).

Williams “isn’t sure” when he’ll make a decision, and he said that he’s really still pretty open. He said that he’ll “probably” sign in November, or he may wait until the spring.

“I’m not really sure at this moment,” explained Williams.

He did say that Missouri is among his leaders.

“(Missouri) sits pretty high

Thanks for the post.

Nothing ground breaking there, still think our main competition is probably Georgetown.

And not that he's not close enough to take an unofficial, but I do think it says something he isn't taking an official to Memphis.

He's been on the Memphis campus many times (unofficials). No need to take an official there. He's been out for Memphis for a while. It was said his interest picked back up with the King and Crawford commits (all friends) but I still think Memphis is out of the picture. They are looking at 3 other bigs.

Lots of guys still take officials...

King was gonna OV Memphis, Nichols will UT(and has probably been on UT campus more than J3 on Memphis campus)...usually schools get an OV if they're a serious contender.

Yeah, they usually do get an OV. Several of the local kids at Memphis didn't. Some hang out there at the Finch Center a lot and just take their OVs out of town. That could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. It's like Austin's dad said.....nothing to do with where he's going to end up (not Memphis) but there's no sense in taking an OV since they're so familiar with the people and place.

BTW, Texas coaches were in Memphis today to see JJ and JWIII. UT is at Southwind HS today. I understand LSU and Izzo will be in tomorrow.

So who this year hasn't taken OVs to Memphis, but taken unofficials, yet taken OVs elsewhere, but has committed to Memphis?

It's a rare feat, and to me it's telling, that much like Nichols jw3 isn't seriously considering Memphis, jmo.

I don't know that anyone has not taken officials this year but committed. Maybe Sam Craft who is officially on ftball SS next year (walk on in BB).

JWIII definitely isn't considering Memphis. I've said that here before. I still say Nichols, JWIII nor Hubbs will be at Memphis. That's pretty much 100%.
