'13 TN OT Christian Morris

Sorry if stupid question but who is "the opening" and what makes them experts?

Big camp held up in Oregon in the summer i believe. If you get an invite to The Opening, then you're supposed to be a pretty good football player. All of the Rivals, 247, Scout, and ESPN scouts go up there and watch all of the drills and 7 on 7's. Some of it gets a little coverage on ESPN.

Essentially the biggest recruiting showcase of top recruits in one location outside of the UA & Army all american games. Nike's The Opening is hosted on their campus in Oregon. All of the scouts from every recruiting service are there. Its Christmas for scouting recruits in the top 300ish in the nation.

1,000,000 % agree

I am actually thrilled after JMoore posted that, but speed rushers will worry me till I see otherwise. Sounds like he has good feet in 1 on 1's and thats enough to tell me he can be taught.

Realize also most high school DL have not really been taught hand placements and push pull ect yet.

His use of arms and hands is as good as I have seen on the high school level although I dont watch a massive amount of film or anything.

Curious to see him against a hard rush this weekend.

I am not trying to dog Morris in anyway, actually based on his film if I had indications his footwork can be good, I would definitly make him a take.

I respectfully disagree here. Foot technique can be taught, but not foot speed....

Plyometrics can increase your foot speed. Speed can easily be effected by terrible technique also. If he has hand quickness, he can gain foot quickness.

Do y'all think skipper is better than Morris?

I think they are both great options. I think CM would have the edge in my mind if for nothing else than he is the in state kid. I also wonder if being 6'10 will hurt DS and him being able to get low and move well vs quick DEs in the SEC. OL is one place I don't mind taking an extra guy if a good one is available. Just take both.

I 100% agree.. I think C.Morris is better and more game ready versus Skipper who might need a redshirt. Skipper may have a higher overall ceiling with proper development. The 6'10" thing also worries me.
Edit: I also wouldn't be surprised if Skipper looks around quite a bit before NSD. He has been getting lots of attractive offers.

Not necessarily disagreeing, but every single evaluation of Skipper has said he gets plenty low and has no problem with the height.

I've seen those too, it worries me, but if you can play you can play and it doesn't matter what your body type looks like.

That may be true. He is also doing it where he is just bigger and stronger than most guys he is playing against. I think doing it in the SEC is a whole different animal. If he could transition well and add about 30-40 lbs within a year or 2, he would be a monster.

I think I remember reading that Pittman thought Morris and Skipper were even and whoever committed first would get the spot. I'd like to have both, we lose 4 or 5 OL next year.

+1

I would like to take both as well. I can't help thinking down inside the 10 a tackle eligible play with Skipper at 6'10 would be a pretty good mismatch for us. Can never have enough quality guys on the OL in the SEC.

Seem to be the most consistant at tackle yesterday from reports

Christian Morris has had best practice

On the O-line ... Morris looks good, very good feet for big kid

Not sure if the new staff is waiting till he visits to offer or not, but I say do it now. Let the kid flip to Tennessee at the game this weekend.

"Best OL at the game drops UCLA for UT". I like the sound of that myself.

Nothing but good things coming out about this kids talent. Makes me wonder if the old staff knew something about off the field issues that made them steer clear

It would be big for CBJ to get an announcment at one of these games.

I'd bet money Koehler announces UT at the game.

Even have a hat on the table for a live announcement at these games would be positive. But if CBJ could get 1 or 2 kids to pop it would go a long way with upcoming visits.

These games are suppose to be about showcasing kids talents but it also showcases the schools they are going to play with.
