'13 TN OT Christian Morris

"I knew coach Elder and coach Jones. They're recruiting me very hard and they're not going to let up off of me very easy and I think they're good guys," Morris offered.

Tennessee talked to Morris about their plan for him if he were to be a Vol and that includes redshirting his first year to be strong and ready to play his second year.

"They said I can be an impact but the best decision for me is to redshirt and get a year of lifting weights and getting to know the program and everything and once I do that I'm good, I'm legit," Morris said.

Interesting that we are being up front with kids about redshirting. Could be good or bad.

Fantastic news.

Hope he decides to stay home and be a Vol. I noticed that the UCLA depth chart shows both starting Tackles there were FR. One OG was a SO and the other was a SR. They are taking (7) guys on the OL in this class so far. Morris would look good in Orange.

Everything I have heard from recruits (read in articles) says its good. Somebody the other day in an article was talking about how much the real talk from coaches appealed to them.

I don't think you can just tell all of these guys what they want to hear with regards to PT to get a signature. Once they get here they've got to respect you and be willing to play for you. I don't think Devante Bourque was the staffs fault but that kind of thing happens when you just try to get kids enrolled.

Could be that he’s gonna be the left tackle of the future. Then they bring in the JUCO guy as some Tiny-to-the-NFL insurance. So that would give Morris a redshirt year, then the primary backup to Tiny or the JUCO guy, then 2-3 years of starting at Tennessee.

That’s how I read it, anyways.

I really don't think it's a bad thing. I think he'd realize the easy sell would be to tell him he could come in and compete immediately. He probably knows deep down a redshirt year would do him well.

Why lie to the kid? All Morris has to do is look at the depth chart to see a redshirt is very likely. Might as well be upfront and honest, IMO.

Huge difference between being behind a SO starter and a JR/SR starter. Especially a JR starter with NFL talent.

And yeah, the kids pay even more attention to the other people in their class than I do.

Yep the kid would get plenty help reading our depth chart from UCLA coaches I am sure. I like the approach but rest assured it isn't done that way everywhere

It's also pretty obvious what the depth chart would look like his redshirt freshman year too!

Exactly. "Hey, christian, why don't you come play for the state school, spend a year getting bigger stronger and learn the system. After that you'll be ready to take over a starting job. Whatdoyasay??". That's the sell.

Someone posted hubbs had some great news concerning Morris ... In his article just posted ... Not groundbreaking ... That's what I meant
