'13 VA RB Derrick Green (Michigan commit)

so is there any validity to this, or just that one article that mentioned it? do we have any other info that says he's thinking about transferring and Tennessee is a possible destination?

You might should compare the data we all had at the time being discussed.

Dyers freshmen stats at auburn are what needs to be looked at.

It will be very clear then

Yeah. One was an All-American five-star running back that obviously had 4 different recruiting services fooled, and the other one was a former 5-star running back that had few takers because of lots and lots of lingering issues. That was the situation last January.

To clarify the point I’m trying to make, Green is frustrated because he simply isn’t being used, and Dyer was a product of the system and looked a lot better than he really was.

The B/R story was how they were not using their backs (any of ’em) and their running game was terrible.
Malzahn has shown he can turn anybody (within reason) into a 1,000-yard back.

JMHO.

Not really. Michigan probably wouldn’t even allow it. He’d probably have to go the JUCO route to get here. If, of course, UT would even want him by then.

And in case anybody was wondering

I don't think transfers count against any class just the 85.

I have been looking everywhere for this answer. This is the best I found. It's from a article about the A&M class numbers last year.

" The other is Oregon transfer Tra Carson who will sit out the 2012 football season after arriving this fall. While we have counted Tra in the 79 counter number, we aren't sure if he has to be counted as an initial counter and if so, just where he can be counted, either to 2012 or 2013 although we imagine he will count as an initial counter for the class of 2013."

Good post.

I think his weight coupled with him being fairly unproductive this year leaves some serious worry that he might be a bust. That's why I would pass

Hope you get tomorrow off rich!

I'm off every weekend. I'll be there tomorrow. Auburn is one of my favorites to watch in Knoxville. Their fans travel well and it always makes it interesting. IMO UT/Auburn is a VERY under rated rivalry. Obviously it's died down a bit since the conference divided. But we used to play Auburn quite often. Poor Majors had to battle them all the time.

I can see your argument with Green, and it's a solid one. I just think its a bit early to call with him being a freshman. Plus they've yet to have what I call I "premier" back at Michigan since Hoke has been there IMO. Could have something to do with coaching.

I will say, I'm not sold on him being the guy, so to speak. I think he needs to share the load. Some dudes are just better for whatever reason if they offset another back. IMO I could see him being that type. For some reason I keep picturing him and Hurd in that splitback shotgun set we saw with Lane and Neal. Either could get the ball, either could lead block for the other.

Edit: Diamond formation! Dobbs, Hurd, Green, Paulk. Just sayin

Mahlzahn has had some good backs at Auburn too.

Yes he has. The Arkansas trio of McFadden, Jones, and Hillis was pretty sick too. I'm a fan of Malzaun's, I think dude can coach. But come Saturday, F that dude. :)

I liked him until he publicly stated that faking injuries was a serious problem and needed to be banned, then told his player to fake one in the arky game. Lost all my respect for him.

They must be included IMO.without them we wouldn't have even been discussing Dyer coming here. I didn't here anyone not wanting Dyer because he originally chose Auburn. But some don't want Green because he "had his chance", and chose Michigan. Lol.

If one doesn't think he's an elite back and wants to pass, I can respect that. But the other claims IMO are straight up sour grapes. I personally think he could be a good back if sharing the load with a dude like Hurd.

No need for appologies man, you good. Several 70+hr work weeks for me, so I'm probably not doing a good job of explaining myself, lol.

I think he could be a good RB if he continues to work hard and doesn't expect things to be handed to him. Anyone saying he will never be that good because he's had limited touches as a true freshman is jumping the gun big time and making a rediculous assumption that someone can get better if they continue to work. IMO Derrick Green reminds me of Shon Green and could end up being that type of back if he continues to work hard in the weight room to get stronger and leaner.

I agree. He's coached some great backs. Cam Newton and Dyer were the heart of that offense in their BCS title season.

Auburn overall has a great RB tradition that will continue to pull in elite RB recruits year in and out. Rock Thomas being this year's RB.

Curious to see how Rock turns out in Mahlzahns offense.

Rock is a man child and will do his thing in that offense.

It definitely does.

He will never get much action at Michigan with that offense. Good luck to him. I saw nothing that would cause me to want him here.

I saw him running east and west in their offense more than I saw him north and south-due to the nature of the Meetchicken offense.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he would be more effective as a north south runner.

He is a straight ahead at you masher. He reminds me of a poor man's Shonne Green at this point of his career.
