Second time someone has questioned his speed even though numbers don't back them up. I believe they look at a white player and just assume he can't run.

Exactly. Some "analysts" have zero clue. I've seen other analysts say he was probably the best cover linebacker in the class.

Kinda like some "analysts" were saying Bray was injury prone and didn't have much arm strength. Obviously had never even seen him play and the only injury he had was from banging his thumb on a helmet.

They just throw stuff out there that they think sounds good.

No he didn't. He's good, but an LB won't be shutting down a 5* rb at camps.
i remember reading an article about it, but dont remember everything it said

edit: found it. he didnt shut him down, but it said he has the overall edge over Mixon

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Five-Star Challenge: Match-up No. 8

Overall edge: Usually the running back has the edge in these matchups and Mixon has proven that he can be tough to cover from the backfield, the slot and even outside. However, Bates is arguably the best coverage linebacker in the country due to his work as a safety, great genetics and football IQ and simply the way he doesn't overreact or try too hard to jump routes. It's hard to give an edge to anyone over a five-star running back at an event, especially when it's a linebacker, but in this case I think Bates can get the better of Mixon.

time for the stereotypes on Dillon Bates: look for key words in these scouting reports like "High Motor guy, good work ethic,etc..."

Don't think I' ve ever seen a black player listed as high motor or good work ethic or a white player as athletic... even though we all know there are some...

Dillon Bates IS athletic....and Tiny has about as high a motor as a player can have...at times too high a motor he gets amped so much...

He's well spoken, too. :)

VolQuest.com - FlaVarsity100 - No. 6 - Ponte Vedra OLB Dillon Bates

Voted #1 Defensive player in FL by flavarsity.com

Like father, like son?. The apple didn't fall far from the tree? a chip off the old block?

All the clich?can be tossed at our No. 6 - Dillon Bates.

With an NFL pedigree (father Bill played for the Cowboys), Dillon chose to follow in his father's footsteps and play for Tennessee.

But other than that, he's his own person.

Bates has been on our radar since we featured him as an 'under the radar' prior to his 2012 campaign. He has been diligent in the weight room and in the class room.

His speed is deceptive, and his tackling technique is solid. He plays the pass very well and can hit like a freight train. All of this adds up to our Number One defensive player in Florida.

Well atleast Hurd got a 5th star. On top of that Bama had 5 guys that were 6.0 4*s prior to today. I was almost positive atleast 2-3 of them would get the 5 star Bama bump. But it didn't happen. So I'm just gonna take what we can get and roll with it.
