athletically, he seems like the best bet to truly go sideline to sideline while being able to cover backs. can play either spot, which is fine.

Went and watched him play and I'm hear to tell ya he's going to be a special player. They had him at D-end , mlb, and receiver. They either doubled him or triple teamed him and always ran away from him but when he did get his hands on them they went down. Dude needs a little upper-body but that will come. He too will be a beast for us. Can't wait. All vol!

Dillon is a classic WILL in my opinion.

If I could make the call on where the current high school linebacker commits would go, I'd say:

WLB - Dillon Bates, Elliott Berry
MLB - Gavin Bryant, Kevin Mouhon
SLB - Jakob Johnson, Jerome Dews

Switch Johnson and Bryant IMO

Switch Johnson and Bryant IMO

I think I've read that Johnson is getting some looks at MLB, so that could happen.

I think Johnson has the athleticism and ability to get after the QB better, which is why I'd prefer him at SAM.

Bryant is a little more compact, and not quite as agile or speedy as Johnson. He seems more of a downhill thumper which is why I'd like to see him at MIKE.

Honestly I could see either of them at either position. I also agree that Bryant is best suited for MLB, but I also think he is fast enough to play any of the LB positions and that there will be a number of suitors for the MLB position, especially when Cherry arrives.

Whoever made the Telvin Smith comparison. I think that was about spot on. Still like my pick of Sean Lee though lol

Hopefully Dillon stays away from the injury bug unlike Lee.

Thanks Bill!
We definitely miss y'all in Dallas!
:)

I bet all of our guys would be cross-trained in every linebacker position. They will be more like interchangeable parts than set positions. We will see sets with Johnson, Mouhon, and Bryant as well as sets with Dews, Bates, and Berry. It's all situational because we will sub a lot.

"Tennessee defensive coordinator John Jancek and linebackers coach Tommy Thigpen headed to Ponte Vedra, Fla., on Sunday to visit with longtime Vols linebacker commitment Dillon Bates, a Top247 prospect who’s the son of former UT standout Bill Bates."

He's a top 50 player easily.

Scouts rankings are below average. But their videos, interviews, and stories are very good, IMO.

No. 217 is such a joke. Look at his Sparq statistics. He's credited with a great understanding of the game and he was a top performer in the Under Armor game. No idea what is going through their heads.
