14' GA ATH Stanton Truitt

The kid who was the first to receive over 100 letters in a single day may no longer have a spot because he waited too long to commit. Think about that? Butch and staff are relentless. No wonder so many offers keep going out, they're not stopping. They will recruit 20 deep at every position until the LOI's are signed and the class is filling up fast.

I hate it for Truitt if he truly wanted to be a Vol but ends up elsewhere, but at the same time, as a Vol fan, this is a very good thing for the future of recruiting. When was the last time a kid of this caliber was told he didn't have a spot? In June, no less. June!

"I have tremendous respect for all the coaches in this conference, but we are ready to compete against everyone in all aspects. The velocity and intensity at which we will attack recruiting will be noticed." -Butch Jones.

Butch is not messing around.

Tbh Powell's physique is just as impressive, if not more so. He has great core strength.

I don't qualify myself enough to second guess Butch...But I don't like this development...But the coach gets paid to make these calls :hmm:

I doubt adding an offensive weapon makes us stop recruiting a CB

Fortenberry seems to think Truitt lost his spot with Powell's commitment. P Fort isn't known to be wrong or speculate. Maybe the staff saw Truitt as a slot WR?

I thought he would be a great slot/RB guy. In the Abernathy role CBJ had at cinci. Then the stories came out about him being a DB at Tennessee. I guess it depends on what story is accurate. If Truitt was to be on offense, I guess he could have lost his spot. Hope that is not the case.

Maybe idk. There have been some weird speculations going around as of late.

I honestly see Truitt at CB and Powell as a RB/WR like he said in his interview. We shall see I guess.

Only thing I hope is that IF Powell took Truitt's spot, the staff at least contacted Truitt and told him the situation before taking Powell. I hope they gave him the chance to commit now, or risk losing his spot. Maybe he was not ready and it is what it is now. I at least hope he was made aware of the situation and had a chance to be a Vol if he was ready.

I'm sure they did. It's likely they've tried to get Truitt to commit before losing his spot for weeks now. At some point you have to take who's ready to commit and move on.

Sounds like that is what has happened. Can't fault the staff for filling up the class. With 15-25 kids a day coming off the board, it's now or never. Recruiting is changing and kids can't wait like in the past.

I think the safe bet is fill the class now with kids that can play in the SEC. If we shock some people and have a better than 6-7 win season, great. We will see the benefit from that in the 2015 class. If we have a 5-6 win season having 80%+ of the class done prior to it sets us up to have them stick together as they have been together so long. I can understand both sides of it. Coming off 3 losing seasons, I think filling the class now while we are hot makes a lot of sense.

I agree. It is better to be safe than sorry. One thing that baffles me is the amount of receivers this staff is recruiting and accepting. I guess it is a good thing in terms of filling the roster with their pro-type of receiver, but I figured we already had talented receivers on the roster. The next question is.... Who leaves?

It does seem like the staff is recruiting like we have no one on the roster who can play ball. They got to evaluate what was there, so I guess we have to trust they know what we need to compete and win.

My main concern right now is recruiting offense vs defense. Our previous staff had no problem signing guys on offense, but struggled on defense. Through about 8 months with the new staff, it kind of looks the same. Maybe the defensive guys start to look our way. I don't feel good about it right now.

Me sad.

Kid looks like a difference maker. If we have led for so long don't know why he didn't just pull the blasted trigger.

I think he wanted to take more visits and see more places. usc commitments have been on him pretty hard to go to the cocks and he has been listening. When you only have 1-2 spots left at a position, better to take the kid ready to commit now than risk losing out on all of them. Wish he could have been a Vol. I think he will be a good player in college.

I think so too. Just seems like if you have a team you think is the best and you know you're out of a spot if you don't commit that you would jump on board. Hope things somehow work out for
Truitt to be a vol
