'14 KY DT Matt Elam

I am not sold on this kid. I lived there for a while and football is second rate.
Competition is terrible. People go to football
Games to see the marching bands, which are amazing.

I just see him being a bust where ever he goes. JMO

And if he commits,u will think he's a beast.:)

I Will Be At UK This Weekend #BBN

I hope the staff gets a chance to figure out how this guy’s a five-star on 247.

Of all the spots we are recruiting, the only places there are BY GOD spots saved are the places we really need good players right away: DT and OL.

I am guessing that he is a back-up plan. I bet our coaches told him to wait to visit after this weekend. We are probably going to make a big push for Williams to decide this weekend. Then Barnett goes public this weekend too hopefully.

Maybe if we were referring to basketball. Their attendance is awful, so their football team or football recruits should tweet #TBN (Tiny Blue Nation)

I was thinking more along the lines of LBV (Lil Blue Village) rather than Big Blue Nation. But yours works just fine bro!

The staff prefers shorter DT's that can get leverage. Elam is not in the best shape for his position. Possible reasons as to why he may not have an offer.

Could be the case. We're also running up against a numbers crunch. Not sure which DTs are highest on our board between the JUCOs and Freshman.

And if that's true, Poona could be up the DT board. Thought we wouldn't take him after hearing he is under 6.0 ft, but might not be the case.

Where are you gettin this? Hughes and Wolfe were 6'4 and 6'5.

1. I'm a student on campus and I have multiple "friends" who work with FB recruiting at UT. 2. The staff has offered 19 Defensive tackles and all but 2 are 6'3" or under.

Personally I really like Elam's film, but I'm no coach. I also hate the volnation "inch" debate. Which is equal to the 400m time argument.

Most if not all prospects are height/weighted on visits.

Dreads=Superstar is however a proven fact.

Just talked to Matt and we'll have a full story up here in a few minutes. But, Tennessee did go in a different direction. Matt hadn't really talked to Tennessee since he was here way back in March.

Coach strip messaged him the other day letting him know they needed to talk and they offered today. Strip told him that after being at Tennessee for several months and studying the SEC more he's going to need bigger linemen and he wants Matt on his line.

I think they also have seen guys like Lambert and Lamin really like other schools and they probably don't have as a good shot with some as they originally thought and honestly, you never bat 100% on the DL and that they need as many quality guys as they can get right now on the defensive line.

Is it too late of an offer for Matt? Maybe. He said they are going to have to create a lot of relationships in a hurry. He's been able to visit UK and Alabama multiple times. He's visited ND and OSU this summer as well. They will have a chance, but it will be an uphill climb. But, he was excited about the offer.

From Matt's coach who posts on VQ...

On Matt Elam

I am going to go ahead and get this out of the way so that there is no confusion. I talked to Paul earlier today and I know that he will have story here in a little bit... I basically told him the same thing... When I took Matt to UT in the Spring, UT decided to not offer at that point. After talking to Coach Strip, he just felt like they wanted to recruit smaller and quicker type DTs for their system. Obviously a lot changed today with the offer. After talking to Coach Strip and Matt today, it appears that talks between the two started up again this past week. Before that, there really wasn't much of anything going on since we attended practice back in the early Spring. I know I posted that nothing was going on between the two a few weeks ago and at that point there wasnt anything going on.

Does UT have a chance now? I am not sure to be quite honest. I havent sat down with Matt yet today to talk about things. We have practice tonight and I will try to see what he is thinking. I know that UK, Bama, and Notre Dame are high on his list at this point and they have several months of recruiting him as an advantage. Hope that helps out guys.

Just exchanged text with Elam (@FballIsLife69) and he says the UT offer "probably" expands his list of possible schools.

Even if we don't get him, I am glad to hear that stripling is adapting to the way he needs to recruit in the sec. May miss on some good DT's this year, but it is worth it if it means getting the right types of players in the future.

Agreed, but time is not something a staff in the SEC has any to blow.
