'14 KY QB Drew Barker

No, they have bandwagon basketball fans.

They haven't had bball to gloat about this year, so I guess they're football fans now that they have a new coach.. Hoping there's finally some light at the end of that tunnel they've been going through for..... Well, forever.

Finally got around to watching his jr highlights and wow he is a perfect fit for this offense. I like him more than Cornwall in terms of fit for the offense but would take either. Just not sure we don't come in 2nd for both due to last yrs class.

Why do people keep acting like last years class would scare an elite QB away?

We have the edge getting him with the Manning jersey, but if UK can get him with Couch's wife (Heather Kosar) this thing is over.

Couch marry Bernie's wife or something. I'm sure Tim is all for the UK program but I doubt he's gonna let a recruit have a go at his wife. Gotta draw the line

He married a former playmate.

Kozar

He preceded and followed Cade McNown with that though....ughh

I'd take Cornwell over him. Cornwell is a much better passer. I've seen Barker a bunch and it's true he is a good fit for a spread option type of offense like Tennessee will run, same with the type of offense Spurrier now runs, but I dont think he fits in all that well in other type spreads. He is a lot like Zeke Pike and Patrick Towles who both came out of this area a few years ago. Big guys who basically are a glorified RB at the QB position but dont have much in the way of passing skills. Solid prospect who needs to be in a very specific offense to excel in college. He' s a borderline low 4/ high 3 type of talent IMO.

On his UT visit recently:

“Everything went great,” said Barker, a four-star prospect who’s ranked the No. 91 overall player and No. 7 pro-style quarterback in the 247Composite for the 2014 class. “I really liked what I saw in the scrimmage, and I got to sit down and talk with Coach Jones and Coach Bajakian about the offense.

“I got to hang out with the players, and I got to tour everything — academics, facilities — so it definitely was a great overall trip, and I definitely came out liking it a lot more than I thought I would.”

“When I hung out with the players and stuff, it was a lot like a family — kind of just, like, a hometown feel,” he said. “I really liked the city. It just felt like I could be really comfortable if I went there. It just felt like I could definitely go there and feel like I was at my home away from home, so that’s definitely a big thing.”

“Tennessee’s right up there with anybody else,” Barker said. “I’m definitely really considering them. This visit was good for me to see how they measure up to the other schools, and I left liking it more than I expected.”

On the new facilities:
“It was definitely awesome,” Barker said. “The facilities are definitely the best anywhere, so, I mean, it’s definitely awesome to have those kinds of resources. The new staff, I think, is going to do great things and turn it around.”

On Jones and Bajakian:
“I have known them for a really long time,” Barker added. “They’ve been recruiting me since I was a freshman, when they were at UC, so I have a good relationship with them. It was great seeing them again.”

“They just said that my abilities fit right into their offense,” he said. “Right now, they’re probably not going to do as much of the stuff they kind of want to do, based off the quarterbacks they have right now, because they’re more drop-back passers. But that’s what they’re looking for in recruiting — a little more athletic players that can run — so they definitely said I could fit in their offense very well.”

He is visiting UK for their spring game this weekend. He stated that he's never stayed overnight at UK, and he wants that experience so he can hang out with the current UK players. He said that UT and USCe are the two standing out given his visits so far.

Thx for the post, Lynx. Is it just me, or did it seem lukewarm?

Barker will not be coming here IMO. Taking the 2 in the last class and the chance that both could redshirt is going to hurt us with QB recruiting this year. Hope I am wrong. I think we need to consider QBs rated about 25-40 if we hope to land one. Maybe a local kid would fit the bill.

No offense but I'm thinking it was just you. Thought it sounded positive. Only part that wasn't was him saying "more than I thought" a couple times. Not sure why he came in with such low expectations.

I view it completely opposite of this. We have to be one of the most attractive schools in the SEC to an elite QB.
