'14 NC RB Derrell Scott (UT Signee 2/5/14)

We're in that small percentage of schools that play in the best conference in the nation and typically have a top five SOS. UGA for example ran through multiple backs in the past few years because of injury. It simply not good enough to have two good RBs in the SEC unless you want to gamble your season on their health.

Are you honestly sure you're a fan of this team? I just wonder because every post you make almost seems an attempt to sabotage this team. I'm not even sure you realize it? Other RBs shouldn't be interested or should be scared because Hurd and Kamara are going to have the position locked down for several years? What happens if one of those guys go down to a bad injury?

You can ask me 12,000 times if I'm Vol fan, my answer is not going to change.

I tend to look at things as realistic as possible. I look at things if I were a recruit, what's the situation look like to me. Yes, I get some fans prefer to look at it as "what if". I just don't do that. I am 100% confident that your #1 and #2 RBs next year are set in stone. Could something happen? Sure. If I were a recruit looking for early PT, would I bank my career on it? I suppose that's something each individual would have to ask themselves. You know my answer.

If Hurd or Kamara went down with injury, I'd expect the other guy to get more carries.

If Scott stayed at UT, he would be in play for #3. What if Paulk is reinstated? He could be #3. What if a FR coming in not named Kamara shows out? Maybe he is #3. Beyond that #3, I don't think it really matters. Serviceable will get it done.

I don't think so. Hurd & Kamara as a 1-2 punch? 95% of schools would trade their entire RB depth chart just for those 2. Anyone who has been paying attention knows that those 2 guys will get 90+% of the carries in 2015. One goes down to injury, the other guy will get the majority, the #3 guy picks up the slack and Dobbs will keep it a little more. In reality it's a roll of the dice no matter who the #3 guy is if he sees many carries at all. CBJ just does not go deep into the RB rotation if he does not have to.

The real scary thing for other RBs is that Hurd & Kamara may have it locked down for the next 2-3 years.

This is the SEC and if you think those two backs are going to carry us next year you are so delusional that you make think the moon is made out of cheese.

No fan is happy with just 2 stud RB.

But realistic fans realize it's hard to attract more elite RB with 2 here, until you're winning NC as often as Saban.

You don't know how deep CBJ would go into a RB rotation. Surely your not going by this year where two of the top three were injured, most, if not all year? Then the number one got hurt and a banged up Marlin was forced to play. It's also part of why Dobbs ran so many times. We had no backs left. Which further proves the point. Not to mention, we know the coaches want a couple of different style backs, which they haven't had yet. So stop it with the assumptions and see how it is when we have real depth and different style players/backs.

Five good, scholarship RBs are needed on every good SEC team. If our Vols want to be good they will have five. Every year at least one good SEC school gets down to #3 and #4. Occasionally they get down to #5. If the five are truly SEC quality they will play within a couple of years due to graduation, early outs to the NFL, injuries, and attrition. Butch's got this. Hope is works out for Derrell

#3, #4 do get carries at times at some schools. Some schools let the #1/#2 guys shoulder the load. UGA in fact did have their #4 get some carries this year due to injuries. He was a 2* RB per 247 I believe. SEC stud? Not really. More a serviceable guy but got the job done.

That UGA offensive line ain't walking through the doors for practice at Haslam Field though.

We go through QBs, WRs, and RBs like paper plates.

So Georgia was down to their 3 and 4 backs against Clemson due to an emergency? I didn't notice that.

If you're attempting to make the argument that top caliber RBs would line up to sign with a school providing 2-3 carries a game, I think you missed. Maybe it was an emergency, maybe it was a "serviceable" situation. 2-3 carries a game will NOT keep a top caliber RB around long.

You may note UGA is having serious trouble this class signing any RBs. They have a Juco kid who was about to flip. Rocky Reid MIGHT be interested. RB depth and what you do with that depth is in play no matter what fans want to think.
