'14 TX DE Dimarya Mixon (UT commit 11/9/13)

I noticed he was played end but in a lot of 3-4 looks since he was a 3-4 end I think he would be a great 4-3 tackle once he adds weight.

So we got 4 DTs in this class Owen Williams Charles Mosley, Cory Thomas and Dimarya Mixon.I didnt include Barnett because I think he is athletic enough to play end. That is a good DT haul to go with Hendrix, Henderson and Barnett on the Edge

I agree but I still think he could play end becuase of how athletic he is. Marlon Walls was 280 and played end last year I love our future on the dline

I'm with you on this one. He's very athletic a lot more athletic than walls is around 275 and would be great at SDE. He has the strength and athletic ability to hold the edge.

I love that we're going to sign 7-8 DL. I remember when VQ suggested they might sign more than 6 and folks said no way. I also remember summer freak outs about DL recruiting. The staff gets it.

Specifically, some Volunteers from Lebanon were extremely worried about it.

Yeah, I was concerned. It looks like it will turn out well come NSD on the DL. There were a couple DTs I liked better that I think wanted to be Vols, but the DL class as a whole looks strong. Especially compared to the last couple classes.

I was worried about it, and still am. I was worried about DT though. It's not as hard to find a DE as it is a DT. I'd feel more comfortable about our situation with a couple of high quality, hopefully elite 300 pounders. Pinning my hopes on Mosely as of now

4 of our 7 DL commits are DT's as Madkins8 pointed out. Williams, Mosley, Thomas and Barnett are going to play DT at UT.

Which of the 4, if not all 4, will see major PT at DT? Do you think Jason Carr will play DT for team 118?

1) We're hoping on Williams being the impact. Hopefully we can redshirt the others, but we won't know until fall.
2) Yes, why would he play anywhere else?

Thomas and Barnett are ends that we must feed until they become a DT. I hope the days of striking out on DT's and turning DE'S into tackles are over soon. When we start getting 2 elite DT recruits per yer the percentages say one or two should be pretty good. With the exodus of players this year due to graduation I'm surprised we didn't take a few more heavyweights. DT and qb would be the only positions considered subpar so far in this great class. If saulsbury and o'brien got hurt, we'd have to rely on Williams and mosely against power running teams. And if we had a 3rd injury we'd be forced to play the Clark's of the world or someone undersized at DT

It's hard to say which freshman will play next fall, very few DT play as freshman in the sec. Williams is an EE and will likely be in the rotation day 1. Yes, Carr is a DT.

I think our 6 man will be this. Saulsberry, O'Brien, Williams, Carr, Vickers, and Clark. We might have a surprise or two this year to make it 7 or 8 man rotation

Thomas and Barnett are both over 270lbs already as HS seniors with very little bad weight if any at all, it won't be hard to add 20-30lbs to those two. I don't think Butch and staff see it as striking out on DT's, they seem to mostly target big/fast/athletic DL who will become DT's rather than massive space eaters who have to lose weight. Saulsbury, O'Brien, Carr and Williams will be the 4 rotating DT's.

You can't fix this roster at every position in 1 recruiting class, it's going to take 2-3.

Yeah I just find the talk about the DL being fine as wishful thinking.... I'm wishing it too. But it gets tiresome to be mocked about concern for DT. I respect you guys feelings of optimism about it, but ten years of suckitude has me focused on the position. I felt pretty comfortable until lambert jumped, but I wasn't lol'ing posters who were claiming he was solid the night before. Our lack of numbers at DT are a long ways from funny, and I don't understand being brought up every time it is discussed like it's validating their opinions and invalidating our own
