'15 AL OL Brandon Kennedy

I thought grad transfers could transfer where they please?? I call shenanigans on this one.

Bama blocked the kid from going to play for Kirby but finally caved to the PR after the backlash. With two years left to play I bet they stick to their guns this time

Gun won’t have any bullets if the NCAA votes the practice dead.

The NCAA has said they were going to end the practice for years now. I hate the rule and wish they would but it's too late this year anyway

It’s never been put up to a vote before...never too late.

Idk the NCAA or SEC rules in detail. It sounds like there may be an SEC rule or policy against transfering within the SEC and that a precedent has been set (Maurice Smith' case) in overriding it for grad transfers.

We'd heard rumblings on this yesterday but was unable to confirm since we never got in touch with Kennedy. Saban did the same thing with Mo Smith but lost the appeal and the defensive back transferred to Georgia.

Here's what Nick said at the SEC spring meetings last year: "I've never been in favor of free agency in our league. I don't think I'll ever be for it. I mean, why should guys leave your team and go play for somebody else and you have to play against them. I don't think that's fair."

I agree with this... For undergrad. Graduates have met their requirements for the school and should be allowed to go wherever they want

Same here. Undergrads, sure. But graduates put their time in. They should be able to go wherever they want.

Schools are going to start delaying kids from graduating. Already happening at smaller schools I am sure

I have mixed feelings on it. I do think the player's best interests are important. On the other hand, a school invests a lot of $ and time in developing a player. Even if he's not a starter, he may be important depth on the team. He also knows your playbook, schemes and strategies well. Is it fair to the school and his former teammates for him to just walk out and suit-up for a competitor or rival on your schedule? Again, I think arguments on both sides of the issue have merit. Tough call, imo.

Should we stop Pruitt from taking the Tennessee job? Should we stop Saban from hiring Butch or Bob Welton? Those guys know the playbooks, schemes, and strategies, too.

The kid put in his time, let him go...

Butch was terminated, but otherwise I do get your point with those good questions.

Non-compete and non-disclosure agreements are hardly unheard of, especially in the business world. They're not common in the coaching profession though. Dan Enos was one case. He had a non-compete (within the SEC) clause in his contract with Arkansas.

Iirc, the NCAA "transfer freedom" rule for graduates, technically only applies if the player's school doesn't offer his chosen graduate degree program. Maybe that's changed recently and I'm just not aware it.

I dont see how they can control that especially when it's only guys not playing that leave big schools anyway. I can see the small school side of it but not sure how fair that is to the kids willing to work for it and that want their degree before NFL

He stays at bama and doesn’t play for 2 more years then his football career is over. He transfers to us or the barn and starts for two years, he has a shot at a career. Could potentially be a multi-million dollar difference.

But coaches are fine right?

Just lighten the course load. 12 hours a semester and give them a summer session off and they can delay graduation and protect their rosters
