'15 AL OL Brandon Kennedy

I have mixed feelings on it. I do think the player's best interests are important. On the other hand, a school invests a lot of $ and time in developing a player. Even if he's not a starter, he may be important depth on the team. He also knows your playbook, schemes and strategies well. Is it fair to the school and his former teammates for him to just walk out and suit-up for a competitor or rival on your schedule? Again, I think arguments on both sides of the issue have merit. Tough call, imo.

To borrow a phrase constantly repeated, " He is only a kid!". I don't agree with that particular view but I do believe this young man must be responsible for his own interests and doing what is best for his career. For sure Alabama and Saban will put the program first period. When TN finally becomes competitive again, they will have the same issues Alabama is facing.

then why let free agent player's sign with a rival in the NFL? Same concept here since the grad transfer has fulfilled his contract per say.

Surely Pruitt and Co would have been aware of a block before telling another kid we got a for sure yes from another player. Like I said earlier this smells more like Bama making sure Auburn doesn't get him. They will work something out for TN imo

Hopefully but could have just been a way to get out of the OV. Could have been an excuse

I think players should go anywhere they want as long as they sit out a year for undergrads.

They have the punishment of waiting a year though. We're arguing for graduates. Undergrad rule needs to stay the same.

The real penalty comes when a player that graduates wants to pursue a graduate degree, and the school that may offer the best education and chance for future employment just happens to have an athletic department that competes in the same conference as his current school. His athletic abilities can help him obtain a higher education financially, yet, he is deemed more important as an athlete than a student and future member of society and forced to choose a lesser option, end his career and go in debt or both.

If the kid doesn’t want to be there, do you really want him? What’s he gonna give you? Especially as a graduate, no coach/school should be able to block him imo.

Here is my take, as I know everyone has been waiting for it. The kid signed a NLOI to play for Bama and in exchange, he would have his education paid for. He is now a graduate, and that agreement has been fulfilled. He is not under any contract when it comes to his remaining years of collegiate eligibility. I would enroll where ever the heck I wanted and tell little Nicky to sue me.

Of course I don't know how the NLOI language reads and that may be a bad idea.

Anyway, screw Nick Saban.

Let’s face it. This is going to get more common with the increased amount of AP college credits being gained at the HS level. If a student athlete has the ability to graduate from college in 2-3 years as is becoming more common, then they should be rewarded. In many cases, this affords them the chance to not only get an undergraduate degree, but a masters or even a leg up on a doctorate. If a normal student switches schools for graduate studies, which is common, then why punish a student athlete?

I understand. I was just chiming in with my opinion. I agree with you in that since he has completed his degree, Bama should have no say.

Should we stop Pruitt from taking the Tennessee job? Should we stop Saban from hiring Butch or Bob Welton? Those guys know the playbooks, schemes, and strategies, too.

The kid put in his time, let him go...

I'm sorry, but there is no reason to put a hold on butch. Let him go wherever he wants, as long as its not UT.

He stays at bama and doesn’t play for 2 more years then his football career is over. He transfers to us or the barn and starts for two years, he has a shot at a career. Could potentially be a multi-million dollar difference.
Who said he won't play at Bama. He's was the #2 OC in 2017 and playing well in the 1st 3 games until he was injured. There's a Sr OG/OC who might get the nod to start at OC, but UA has not finalized it's 2-deep OL yet and rarely does until mid way through fall camp. They shuffle guys around, experimenting to find the best combination and so they learn multiple OL spots. The Sr he's competing against might end up starting at OG instead.

Tell Bama that they either have to offer Butch an on field coaching job or let BK come yo UT.

If 3-year grads who redshirted (and thus have 2 years remaining to play) get total freedom to transfer anywhere they want and play immediately, LOTS more kids are going to start taking enough summer classes to graduate early and give themselves that option. Teams (including Tennessee) could have 10-15 of their most experienced players (they spent 3-4 years and lots of $s educating and developing) walk out every year and go play for their rivals and other teams on their schedule.

Be careful what you wish for.

Schools slowing the process down of graduating is coming in a big way

Graduate programs take more than one year to get a degree anyway. The spirit of the rule is to help a kid get the degree they want so there is no reason why that kid can't sit out a year. Give the kid an extra redshirt year which would allow many of them to go into their 6th year. They shouldn't be immediately eligible imo

Saban’s not a fan of free agency, but freely processes guys by only honoring one scholarship year at a time. Pot, meet kettle.
He couldn't do that even if he wanted to. Scholarships are for 4 years now. It's been that way for a while.
