Bleacher report...

Yeah, I love where they keep calling him a "5* QB that everyone would kill to get", yet Bleacher Report themselves rates him as the 9th best QB out of 10 at the Opening. Don't get me wrong, all the QBs there are talented. He is just not a 5* QB IMO.

Do I think TG was a take for UT at one time? I do. After taking 2 other QBs, I just think that time has passed.

With the coaches taking a LB, DT, and now possibly a TE, and that few had us taking, IMO TG's "spot" is gone. Especially with the news that Jefferson may indeed be a Vol.

This is exactly why I find bleacher report to be a joke.

I don't see where we have the number of spots available for Gibson now. He has held out and other guys have committed to the spots(QB and WR) that he has been recruited for.

This is no longer about taking him and making room for him no matter what.

We have some needs that must be filled in this class and with the new commitments and the possible new TE commitment, I have to ask, where would Gibson now fit in?

We only have 24 scholarships to give in this class and 17 of them are spoken for. That is 7 open spots that the coaches must divide among defensive tackles, defensive ends, cornerbacks, linebackers, and offensive linemen.

The top recruit you are after never loses his spot. He has the most potential out of the three possible qb recruits. Gibson's ceiling is way higher than the other two.

Than Dormady? Nah.

You can argue that we need a more mobile QB, but you cannot argue that TG's ceiling is higher than QD. Not a chance.

k-town, what position is Butch supposed to short-change or whose scholarships is he supposed to take away so that he can sign 3 QBs?

we have a lot more needs to be filled and not enough scholarships.

Gibson is not in the stars for this class.

Each of those assessments are individual writers' opinions. It's not like Bleacher Report itself comes up with official player/team assessments, and then all the writers have to uphold that assessment in their articles.

That's why there's so much inconsistency from piece to piece, and also why there's so much content compared to other sports websites that only use a handful of established reporters.

This. And if we're being honest, those 7 spots aren't enough.

This isn't the numbers thread. We we lose one or two. It happens every year. Stop acting like the coaches won't be jumping through the roof if Gibson commits. He has a spot reserved. No doubt about it. Every source says he does. That is why we lead for him. When he commits in Dec he will not get turned away.

Actually you can. Think about it. Gibson has talents than QD can never acquire. QD is a better passer yes. However passing can be taught and improved upon. If Gibson's passing ever matches his speed and athleticism, then look out. QD does not posses anywhere near the athleticism Gibson has, few QB's do. So higher total ceiling has to go to Gibson. Higher ceiling as a pure passer might go to QD though.

That's a big if

Yea right. Every single expert says his ceiling is first round Mike Vick/ Vince Young/RGIII. Dormady is solid. No one has said he has Manning or Luck potential. His floor may be higher but his ceiling is way lower. They both have the same arm strength and can make all the throws, they are the same size, Gibson has way better athleticism. Gibson has way more potential. He may be more like likely to bust at qb but his potential is way higher.

I'm looking at it like this. Who has the better chance at being a NFL QB. IMO, Dormady takes it, all day every day. Sure that is a long range projection...but that is my ceiling. Being a better all around athlete will may help when they are out of college and playing church league soft ball. But a ceiling for a QB has to be for a QB...not for an athlete.

Exactly. And if he gets to UT and busts at QB then that will give Dobbs/Dormady/whoever another stud WR to throw to. Why this is hard for some to understand is beyond me. There is no possible scenario where CBJ passes on a player with the athletic skill of Gibson. If he did then I would have to question him.

We have need at OL,DL,DB and LB. But hey...lets pick up and ATH that may play QB or WR...let's forget where our needs are. We have needs all around the football field, yet people think we will take 3 QB's. If we take another QB over and OL, I will have to question CBJ.

Could I see CBJ happy with the 2 QBs he has and focus on 2016 QBs? Easily.

Could I see CBJ looking at Gibson and Jefferson and thinking Van would be the better WR? Easily.

I would not question those moves AT ALL.
