'15 FL QB/WR/DB (anything he wants) Torrance Gibson

The numbers are tighter than ever and we have several positions other than QB that MUST be filled in this class.

Oliver is a great pickup and will be a great weapon for Gibson.

TNK we do need a scholarship ls less than a top 20 player with through the roof potential. No way anyone could argue that. He could be a preferred wo. If numbers get tight with top players coming don't be surprised if that happens.

We tried to get a LS to walk on last year. Guess what happened... he went to OU, who offered him a scholly.

It's a tricky thing to give a scholarship to LS...but sometimes you have to do it...to ensure you have one. That is where we are at.

It may not be RL but if we get a numbers crunch someone will be asked to look around, gs or be a pwo. It happens everywhere every year. Look at Dews. Someone will be out in the cold and it won't be any of our top targets.

I forgot the NCAA has said that TG can go to any school that he chooses, regardless of the number of scholarships. Thus making the numbers off topic in this thread...

Like I have said kids decommit or don't have the grades. Every commit we have right now will not sign most likely. It would be a miracle if they do.

Assuming you are correct and Butch will pull the rug on some of these kids, TG is still in a bad spot.

Look and how many kids (kids we want and need) we are in on, and will commit before TG. There are only so many of these "3* replaceable" kids you are speaking of... We could have a class full of Richmonds, PWs, Kahlils etc before Gibson decides UT is indeed where he wants to be.

Some are waiting until NSD. Gibson is not one. He said after the season. Most likely Dec. We will have a spot. If not we will still take the commit and someone will be looking elsewhere. Pretty simple. No way we pass on any you named. Gibson or not.

There will surely be a de-commit or two somewhere down the line.

However, if we don't lose a commit, the roster slot will probably be created by a transfer/academically ineligible player leaving UT.

We're already relying on 8-9 guys leaving to fill what we have. Who do you guys think will leave or decommit?

The number of available scholarships is irrelevant when considering a player with this sort of talent.

The only numbers that matter are 1, 4, 5, 16: 4*QB, 5* & #1 athlete in the class, and #16 overall player in the entire country.

I have no idea, but we know it is bound to happen at some point

We trust CBJ and be done with it. Simple.

Is this forum A bunch of babies now? Look this is like a collasping relationship, neither person wants to talk about it, but we know its inevitable. Putting aimless trust into anything is dumb in my mind. I like Butch as much of the next guy, but this is a message board. We get to talk about all subjects involving vol balli ncluding this.

Nuh uh uh :nono: ONLY if you agree with those that have TAKEN OWNERSHIP OF THE THREAD.

If Butch stops calling me for QB evaluations, I'll be very upset. Dormady, Williams, and Cutbirth was gold. I don't care what anyone says. :)

I agree but in all honesty even I am getting worn out here. It was not so long ago that all Vol fans were yearning for talent to get us back to glory. I would venture to say that in 2012 if a player of Gibson's talent and skill were considering coming here there would be very little who would complain.

After back to back 5-7 seasons a top 20 player has us as his leader and we stand a good shot at landing him. Many articles have been written about his skills and potential. Many of the major D1 programs wants him and many of their fans would be ecstatic to get him. For most of us on here, we just want Gibson to be a part of this team. I want his skills on our team. From all of what I have read and heard so does CBJ. Most fans would agree that CBJ and staff are fantastic recruiters. They know how to spot talent. So why is it 99% of the other recruits that CBJ has been on he is right but not TG?

I am for every recruit that CBJ takes a commitment from. He knows way more about talent than anyone on a message board. The same coach who sees greatness in Dormady and Jennings obviously sees it in Gibson. So whats the problem? I like QD and JJ. I think they will both be great players for us. Why can't some others see Gibson like that? How often is it that a top 20 player and someone with TG's skills has serious interests in UT? Rarely.

So it boils down to plain idiocy and hypocrisy.
If you're a person who has felt for a long time UT has not been as talented as other teams and you don't want one of the most talented guys in the country then you're an idiot.

If you're a person who believes that you understand more about evaluating talent and recruiting than CBJ and his staff, then you're an idiot.

If you're a person who believe our team is so good that we can just pass on some of the best players in the country then you're an idiot.

If you're a person who thinks that we should pass on Gibson, yet take the commitments from other talented players like KM, then you're a hypocrite.

If you're a person who feels we should trust CBJ judgement on recruiting, yet thinks we should not take TG even though he is still being recruited strongly by CBJ then you're a hypocrite.

We will likely lose some 4* players as well. It happens every year. We are not going to have a class like Alabama has. I would love to but we are just not there yet. Its not assumptions its just fact. Guys flip. Grades don't work out. They are asked to go someplace else sometimes to make room for better players. It happens. This is recruiting. It doesn't end until NSD. Guys even flip on NSD.

Pretty limited one sided options there...how about none of the above?

Butch keeps recruiting him until the class is locked up...then he explores other options.

And we ALL avoid the hypocrite label. :yahoo:

How about if you don't think the numbers fit? There's only a limited amount of spots available. We need linemen badly.
