Domino effect: Quinten Dormady, Blake Barnett cause movement

Tennessee – Tennessee can breathe a big sigh of relief with the commitment of Dormady on Monday night. For a program in desperate need of depth at the quarterback position, Tennessee was running out of options for elite passers in the 2015 cycle. The only negative to that Dormady commitment is that it hurts the Vols in their Torrance Gibson hunt. Auburn could be slowly taking the edge for the athletic lefty.

Tennessee takes QB commitment; has Gibson derby changed direction? | Saturday Down South

Tennessee already has accepted a commitment from ATH/QB Jauan Jennings, and with this decision it looks like a very strong insurance plan just in case Gibson doesn’t end up in Knoxville–or maybe if Gibson does show up and ends up at another skill position, as has been suggested.

Quinten Dormady Commits to Tennessee: What 4-Star QB Brings to Vols | Bleacher Report

After Zach Gentry committed to Texas and Sheriron Jones pledged to Florida, the Vols were down to just a handful of viable targets with UT offers remaining on the board.

With Torrance Gibson and Deondre Francois not expected to decide soon, Dormady represented Tennessee's best chance to secure a high priority early in the process.

"They needed a quarterback pretty badly," Callahan said

Following Ferguson's transfer, there was no way Jones could wait on 5-star top quarterback target Gibson to make a decision that could drag all the way to national signing day.

If the Vols put all their eggs in Gibson's basket and he chose somebody else, the egg would wind up on Jones' face.

Waiting wasn't an option.

They all say we were running out of options and couldn't afford to wait on Gibson in case he didn't chose us.

A lot of those articles were claiming Dormady was UT's 1st QB commitment. Why? Because they have Jennings as an "ATH". They choose to ignore the fact that he will at least start out as a QB at Tennessee.

I agree waiting was not an option and a very good decision by CBJ. Riley still in the fold, maybe CBJ would have risk it. Ferguson left and CBJ made a beeline to the phone to offer/take a true passing QBs commitment. I did not see it as insurance. I saw it as CBJ finalizing his 2015 QB class.

Thought you had all the "experts" on speed dial?

Never claimed that. I can read though which others seem to not be able to do. I have searched and cannot find where either said what is being claimed they said. This thread has many examples of anti Gibson guys twisting quotes or interviews to fit their agenda. I just wonder where theses things where said. The only thing I found was this Butch Jones, Tennessee Vols stay hot in recruiting.

"Dormady filled one of UT’s most pressing needs by choosing Tennessee over Alabama earlier this month, giving the Vols the quarterback they needed after they failed to sign one in the 2014 class. Top-100 athlete Jauan Jennings of Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., who committed to UT in April, also is hoping to play quarterback for the Vols and is expected to get his first look there."

Nowhere does it say we backed off Gibson or don't still lead. Maybe there is something else someone heard or saw. I would like to read it or hear it also.

These are quotes on VQ and 247 boards when people asked about TG... i posted everything Callahan has said on TG in the last 12 hours (start a couple pages back and you'll see).

Do you mean this?

Again, I'm not really in a position to discuss the details of what Gibson has or hasn't done. But I do think it's at least possible that Tennessee ultimately could back off Gibson. It's a somewhat tricky situation for the Vols, considering that Gibson is involved with a number of their other current targets, and completely backing off Gibson might leave a sour taste in the mouths of some of the guys he knows. But I would not consider him one of UT's top targets at this point, if that makes sense.

So he can't discuss anything. We are still recruiting him. And he thinks ITS POSSIBLE that we could back off?

Not very convincing proof of us backing off or not being number 1 still. He said Gibson is involved with our recruits and its his guess that we may possibly back off at sometime? Flimsy arguments to say anything has changed. He didn't say we have backed off like people are claiming. More word twisting to fit agendas.

Like I said no solid info.

Gibson has said we lead. He is still involved with many of our recruits. These are the same guys who swore Ferguson was the next Manning. When I see it from Gibson or the national guys I will think something has changed. How can they know what Gibson is thinking? You think the coaches called them and told them they were backing off Gibson? Or Gibson called them and said we don't lead? Sure.

The articles when Dormady signed even said we were desperate and took him in case we didn't get a better qb.

Exaggerate much? Can't say I remember Hubbs or Callahan saying that Riley was the next Manning. They just reported that he looked the most ready to start of the guys we have coming into the 2014 season.

You are right they didn't say that. People just twisted what they said to make it seem like that. Like this whole we backed off and don't lead thing. They never said he was the most ready. People twist stuff to fit their agenda and ignore what doesn't. Just like they ignored the reports of Ferguson's many turnovers in the spring.

And its funny when people were running with the twisted quotes the anti Gibson guys were all in here. Now I ask for proof and its crickets.

It's alright my man. There is always one who chooses to go down with the ship. I'd conserve your energy if I were you. You may need it when it's time to dogpaddle to shore.

I'm not the one faking things. There is not one shred of proof anything has changed. If there is show me. Its that simple. You have no proof so you try to be funny. The ones sinking are the anti Gibson guys. Yall are so desperate and whiny yall make up things.

What proof are you looking for? These are quotes seen by many who are either on VQ, 247, or both. I hope you aren't suggesting Callahan's or Hubbs's quotes didn't occur. And I have been all about getting Gibson on board. But those quotes would suggest UT and or Gibson has taken a back step. Whether it be momentarily or not, who knows. But that's apparently where we are right now with this recruitment.

Crazy.

Wouldn't shock me if the next thing we hear is TG is talking to the squid dude at ky about a one n done deal.

Nothing posted said for sure we have. RC thinking we may step back at some point is way different than we have and Gibson doesn't have us in the lead. Like I said no one can post anything or link to anything that says we have backed off or Gibson dropped us down his list. Its a lot of word twisting and jumping to conclusions. RC has not said that Gibson or the coaches have said anything has changed. Stop acting like there is anything to say something for sure has changed.

Didn't know Engineervol was an "anti-Gibsonite" guess you have to tread lightly to avoid that Scarlet Letter...in a totally unrelated query, anybody recommend a good McCarthy Red Scare documentary?

"I wouldn't say Tennessee has stopped recruiting him, but I also wouldn't put Tennessee as the favorite for him".

That is Hubbs speak for "He Gone".

TIFWIW.

So no proof we have stopped recruiting him nor proof he dropped us. Just like I thought. People said he dropped us from number one and we backed off. No where has that been said.

It an opinion not backed up by anything from the coaches or player in question.
