Having a little mobility doesn't make you a dual threat. See Tee Martin. He and Jaimes both can elude a pass rush and pick up a first down with their athleticism, but neither are dual threat.

Having mobility is what a dual threat means. The threat that you can run. Not that you get running plays called for you or that you run more than ten times a game. There are plenty of qbs who are pass first that are dt qbs.

This is the most divisive recruit in the history of UT football. Some would like to have him as a QB, others want him to be the next CP (which He doesn't want to do), others don't want him at all. I don't want him because if he only wants to play QB, then UT is not the place for him. It is my opinion, and I am wrong a lot, that CBJ has his QB's for this cycle. I personally don't see the point in bringing a kid in under the guise of playing QB when he will excel more as an "ATH" it has been reported that he does not like the label "ATH". If he were given a year or two to prove what he could do as a QB, but failed to impress the coaches, would he suck it up and do what's best for the team? Or will he pout and hold on to the dream of playing QB. To me, he does not come across as one that will swallow his pride and be a team player based on interviews that he has done.

So you're saying it's a coincidence? I disagree.

Actually yes. Those teams had sick defenses. 2005 Texas may be a bad example because without VY I don't know that thru best USC.

The point is, good teams win. And good teams with elite defenses bring home the hardware.

Tennessee absolutely wants him at QB...until/unless he isn't good enough, then they'll absolutely want him somewhere else, just like every other school who's recruiting him.

So ten articles come out backing up this. One comes out disputing it and he is lying? Maybe Farrell has it wrong.
Its no different than the ones that claim everything that comes out that doesn't say "TG is a definite take and the #1 QB on the board" is lying. Both sides are doing the same thing. There are just as many experts/insiders saying one thing as saying the other.

TG wants attention and you can tell it. The only way there are so many conflicting reports is that TG is telling one person one thing and telling another person another. There is no way that many people are just making stories up on any side.

Common sense.

When the #1 ATH in the country wants to try QB, you let him try QB and move him if it doesn't work.

That's the thing though. You say he's an athlete, but he says he's a QB and a QB only. He's saying he's not willing to move or try other positions.

Does Butch want the guy??? That's really all that matters, if CBJ says he's a take then he's a take. Plus having someone who can take off and run when nothing materializes is a great asset but only if he has passing ability.

I believe Randall Cobb was the same way. He wanted a shot at QB and Fulmer said it wasn't gonna happen, now he's an NFL wide receiver. So if TG's path follows Cobbs even remotely then I would rather have him on our team than anyone elses.

With the weapons we have on offense, I can't understand why some people don't want a pro style QB? The most we need the QB to do in our offense is to keep the ball one or two times a game to keep the defense honest. We've got WR's and RB's out the wazoo, and some people don't even want to use them.

Why can't we use them? Just because we play a DT guy, doesn't mean he won't throw.. That's where the dual comes from in dual threat.. Our offense will run best when the qb can do both.

Nice to see you posting on this board, Mr. Slive.

When you have a guy with that kind of physical ability you need only focus on getting him on the team. Everything else will sort itself out naturally afterwards and most likely in either capacity to the great benefit of our team. Gibson is an elite football player, period. Coach Jones has said himself he's interested in the best "football players." In my opinion Coach obviously thinks Gibson fits into that category as we continue to recruit him heavily until the day he commits.

Why do people not want Gibson ? He is a good player and we need good players... Ok he is not a typical tennessee qb but God knows the typical hasn't worked since Peyton . We need a guy that can move around and be able to run for first downs not be a statue in the pocket. I mean heck cam Newton and mabziel couldn't throw the ball the best but they scored points any way possible and that's what we need

The same posters saying they don't want this guy are the same posters that will be complaining when he routs us playing for Auburn over the next 4-5 years. The idea that a true dual threat QB doesn't fit in at Tennessee precisely explains why we've had such little success over the last 6 years. Football is changing, and Tennessee needs to jump on the bandwagon and embrace that change. I sure hope TG doesn't end up at Auburn. Malzahn would have a field day with this kid 's ability.
