Once you're filled your positional needs, there is no reason not to go after one of the top athletes in the nation and bring him in AS AN ATHLETE. If he shows out at the position he wants to, you keep him there. If not, you move him elsewhere. Not sure why people don't seem to understand that.
He hasn't ever been very high on us that I can recall and we are loaded at his position. Trio those with the two we have already committed and I don't see him here. I think it's all tOSU.
High on us? Its either tOSU or UT for him. Several people (VQ guys) think we lead for Van. And judging by the CB on 247, I'd say we stand just as good of a chance or better of landing him than anyone else.
I've heard that his UF visit isn't all that serious. They will be down in Florida for vacation and stop by for a visit. tOSU hired one of the HS coaches at Van's school, and according to Buck, that rubbed Van's dad the wrong way.
We have Preston Williams on board. Bruce and Woods are slot guys. Van won't be a starter Day 1, but I think he can be very useful and productive. Butch really impressed his parents at the Orange Carpet event. I get the feeling that Shawn, Van's father, trusts Butch with his son.
That works on video games, but in real life, there is more to it. We all know that CBJ has a recruiting profile that he follows. I will take a hard working, coachable, selfless three or four star over a four or five star with questionable work ethic and attitude.
As everyone saw with TO and other professional athletes, it only takes one to destroy team chemistry. (not referring to TG, but in general to the statement that we should just take the best athletes regardless of position)
Been trying to tell you....stop trying to apply normal conventions, here. It doesn't apply. Everyone and their grandmother thought there was no way we could legitimately take more than 30 players in last year's class. Butch proved them wrong. He worked some magic, and made it happen. So, the way things look now may not be the way it looks by November/Dec.
I too thought Gibson missed his boat after Dormady committed, but that ain't what he's been told by the staff. If he commits, again...I think his and Jennings prospects as QB is contingent upon the results of an initial competition...with the low guy on the totem pole getting moved to another position.
I'm thinking that is what he is telling both Jennings and Gibson. That they will both get a shot at QB, but it's likely that one of them switches position. As long as they are both cool with that, we could conceivably take all 3...knowing that one of them will play elsewhere.
I understand what your say. If you had the chance to wait your turn or start day 1 somewhere else which would you chose...
Because we were running out of options, with dominoes falling and CBJ probably wanted to insure that we had one bird in hand, rather than gamble on 2 in the bush. The coaches have seen him in person many times now. They put him through the paces. It looks like the UT coaches think he will do just fine running their offense. They did take his commitment at QB.
What is questionable about his work ethic?!?! Also you are clearly referencing that TG could be a cancer in the locker room, so there's no reason to say otherwise. CBJ has taken players with much more publicized and substantial issues, so I'm not buying that he doesn't fit his "profile". Are you saying this kid is lying about everything CBJ has told him? If so might as well come out and say that.
I'm just going by what the kid said. It doesn't make any sense, by most standards...but I think CBJ is furiously trying to get as many elite athletes on the roster as quickly as he can, so he doesn't have to struggle through 3-4 lackluster seasons. His job as a recruiter gets tremendously harder, the longer it takes.Man, I LOVE the complete 180 you've turned regarding Gibson.
I remember myself and others telling you the bolded part a month or so ago you went absolutely ape**** saying that it wasn't happening.
Glad you've seen the light though, my friend.

If that means breaking some normal conventions, I think he's willing to do it. Taking 3 QB's makes no sense, but I think CBJ tries to make it work....based on what Gibson has CONSISTENTLY been saying since he visited last.
Anyone else thought of the possibility of TG committing to UT, and he starts at QB but gets moved to WR due to accuracy issues. TG faking an end around and then pulling up and launching a 50 yard bomb to a streaking Malone or Williams. He may not be that accurate but he does throw a pretty deep ball.
I clearly stated that I was not talking about TG but was answering your question about just taking the best athletes in the country regardless of position. You in turn tell me that I am lying and that I am talking about TG and blah blah blah.
What players has CBJ taken that has publicized and substantial issues? Which players in the '13 and '14 class? I will wait while you look it up.
I never said TG was lying but he may be embellishing a little. NO ONE knows what they talk about, but I will take the word of those that have access to the coaches over a teenage kid everyday of the week. If multiple sources that have access to the same coaches say the same thing, it may be true. TG may be trying to save face.
So, a kid is going to lie straight faced in front of an ESPN camera with millions watching? Sure...keep thinking that. :crazy:So whatever TG says is the Gospel truth? Are you serious? So you hang on every word that TG says, but you turn around and discount the word of people that have access to the coaches? That makes sense...that's logical.
I don't always take second hand information, but when I do, I take it from a teenager.

So you randomly brought up talking about people being cancers in the locker room without even having TG in mind? Sure, whatever you say man.
Tell me, how excited are you to see Alvin Kamara in our backfield next year? I'm pretty excited to see an elite athlete in orange.
CBJ and staff sure seemed interested in DJ Pettway last year, you know, the guy arrested for ARMED ROBBERY.
But whatever man, you don't want him for whatever reason. I just feel those reasons aren't very good ones.
