'15 GA DB Yaquis "Duke" Shelley

This, 100%.

They will throw him up against the biggest and fastest WR's to see how he handles it. If his 5'8 self locks those jokers down, he makes himself an absolute take. Some players play bigger than their size. He'll have the chance to show.

True. i.e. Cody Riggs, who played SAFETY for Florida at around 5'8 185lbs.

I hope Butch can flip McGraw.

We have really jumped on the Abernathy train at this point. He said the Vols lead after the offer. Butch coached his brother at Cinci.

Amadi, Abernathy, and two other solid DBs should be about all we would take this class.

FWIW, I also think Woods ends up as a DB and not a slot like most predict. Rahming is better suited for slot than he is IMO.

Height for a Safety is less important because they rarely cover a receiver 1-on-1. It plays a bigger factor for Corners because they need to be able to cover tall receivers on an island.

You don't see many 5'8 safeties. It's much more common to see 5'8 corners. Thus, Cody Riggs transferring to play CB.

Bob Sanders comes to mind as a shorter safety, but he was 206 lbs.

VQ said he showed up about 5'8" to junior day.

yeah that is getting pretty short with how tall some of these WR's are now

I thought the 5'10" might have been a bball program height - I think I was 6'3" in the bball program in HS - took shoes to even get me to 6'0" :)

That really is too short. You can be an absolute ball hawk but a 6'4 receiver is gonna catch a ball over a 5'8 DB every time.

"Like picking peanuts off short DB's heads" as Dooley would say. Hate to quote the guy but if there is one thing he understood, it was the passing game.

Having read several pages of this post, I am happy to say that we have arrived at the point where we are able to wait and pick and choose. Hope the best for the guy, especially since he likes us, but CBJ has to do what's best for the program hopefully without alienating any HS coaches. With limited shollys available next year, have to be uber choosy. What a difference from the past few years.

Amazing to think he would have been a cornerstone in Dooley's class but has a conditional offer from Butch & co. As Bob Dylan sang, "the times they are a-changin."

Don't you think this is a bit of a reach? A 5'8 160 lb CB would be the cornerstone of a Dooley class?

Not trying to defend the guy & he definitely can't hold a candle to Butch especially in the recruiting game, but he landed his fair share of studs too.

His first recruiting class yes. After that not so much

They may not have finished their character evaluations yet. Butch speaks of this "recruiting profile" a lot. Of course that is something we'd never hear about as far as a final determination. If they sign they obviously were up to snuff in that dept. Butch said the other day in that 30 min vid someone posted that he wants players that want to compete. I'd imagine kids overly concerned with depth chart would be a red flag to him. It takes some time to evaluate the maturity and want to of each prospect I'd imagine

I'm talking about his ranking.

When people ask me about my perspective on Dooley it is

1. He landed CP
2. He had a big hand in designing our complex

It stops there.

He is also the reason cp wasn't able to stay for a second year.

I read an article, and I will try to find it, that said CP just wasn't smart enough to pass his classes. Apparently, he's a very hard worker, but he just isn't book smart.
