Most of the time our D has been in nickel with only one OLB on the field.

Maggitt moves up to DE in that package and Maybin is the OLB on the opposite side, so if Taylor and Walker are the OLB's in a nickel package...one moves up on the DL, and the other stays at OLB

You do realize we have 2 OLB positions, and 2 DE's, right? So, why would we have to recruit/take only Taylor or Walker, rather than both?

I do, but I think they were recruited for the same position. We have 3 weak side defensive ends already. While I do believe Walker is probably better than several of them I don't know if they cut bait with them for Walker. I think they should if he is realistic but I'm just not sure.

Both Taylor and Walker play the same position...WDE. They would never be on the field at the same time unless one of them ends up at OLB. Time will tell if either of them end up anywhere other than WDE.

Yeah but both Walker and Taylor's strength is rushing the passer, not dropping into coverage like JRM. They'll probably want someone like Bates/McDowell/Sapp/Berry on the field instead of another standing pass rusher in that formation.

They probably could use both in that 3-3 alignment we saw this year where they used Weatherd to spy or rush the passer.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the real difference between a WDE and a SDE? Different ideal weight and height? Different skill sets?

WDE: Pass rusher, usually a pretty good height but around 220-240
SDE: Run stopper, all purpose type player (Barnett), usually over 250

Theoretically the Strongside is the side where the TE lines up, so a SDE may be better suited to a run stopper first unless they run away from the formation. Normally a WDE will line up outside the tackle's shoulder, often a LT when facing a right handed QB. IMO they designate WDEs as guys that are considered better pass rushers.

I don't notice our DEs flipping according to strength call, typically they stay in an over formation with both able to play the 9 or 5 technique.

Big news here: Top247 defensive end D'Andre Walker told me he will be announcing his decision during Saturday's game. He previously had indicated that he was going to hold off on making an announcement, but he's apparently close enough to being completely decided to go ahead and announce Saturday. He said he's still going to take official visits to Georgia and Auburn next month.

He wasn't 215 like walker either. Not the same type of bodies at all. Not the same player. This kid is a monster on the edge rush though.
