Agreed. He had his chance to commit earlier in the process and just as I predicted if he waited too long he'd lose his spot. He's not that kind of prospect IMO that you take no matter what.
Yeah if he ends up at LB that makes the safety position for 2016 look even more scary. Who in the world do they have back there besides Kelly?
Gaulden very well may be the nickel next year, they seem to be moving Evan all over the place from CB to S to RB. Every one thinks Elliot and McDowell are future LB's. That position is never talked about but it looks really thin right now for 2016.
They almost have to looking at the roster for 2016. You don't want to have to count of freshman at that spot, especially in a starting role. I wish they'd make an all out play for Brian Cole with the situation up at Michigan.
The more and more I think about the more I want Quarte to UT. I just think he's perfect for our defense.
With Tuttle and McKenzie in the middle he won't be taking on guards and tackles and will be free to do what he does best and flow to the ball.
With Cecil Cherry now looking around Tennessee has stepped up its game in looking at other linebackers. Tennessee continues to be a top school for Quarte Sapp and after it looked like the Vols may have trouble sneaking in another linebacker it looks as though they are turning up the heat now with Cherry not as firm as he once was and Sapp is definitely in play.
Sapp vs Kirkland who ya got?
If it's an either or thing, I'd take Kirkland. I think we are sitting better at OLB than options in the middle. JMO
Also if Kirkland wants to commit on his UT OV, only way I take it at that point is if he decides not to take the rest if I'm CBJ. Otherwise I'd recruit other LBs till he finishes his OVs and then wants to decide and shut it down.
Aren't we Kirkland's last visit? Thought someone mentioned that somewhere.
No. I looked earlier when I saw someone mentioned he did set up an OV to UT for this weekend. I think I saw OVs set up to USC and TX after Tennessee on his 247 timeline.
signs are pointing to us getting Kirkland if we really push for him.
Of course, Cherry could call the coaches and firm up his commitment so who knows.
Its important to remember a lot of people picked us to land Kirkland before he went with michigan. I think that says a lot.
I also think Ole Miss is our top competition for him.
Sapp vs Kirkland who ya got?
Kirkland. No disrespect to Sapp, but it's not particularly close. Both are good players but I think Kirkland is a bit better as a prospect and also fits a need much more than Sapp, especially if Cherry flips.
Our depth at OLB is pretty solid going forward. We have JRM, Weatherd, and Maggitt. Dillon Bates and Cortez McDowell will also line up there, and possibly Ell Berry as well. We're bringing Austin Smith in. It's also possible that you could see guys like Joe Henderson, Darrell Taylor and Marques Ford stand up and play as a rush LB on the other side, and certainly D'Andre Walker would fit that role perfectly if we land him. That's very good given that we only play two linebackers fairly often anyway.
Contrast that to MLB. We may put Maggitt there, though with the way he's been playing at DE lately I'd be reluctant to move him. Behind him we have Jakob Johnson and Gavin Bryant, neither of whom have played significant snaps yet. If they don't work out you have to start getting creative. I don't expect either Cherry or Kirkland to contribute next season really, but we certainly need to stockpile talent at that position for 2016 and beyond.
