'15 MI ATH John Kelly (UT Signee 2/4/15)

If Hurd or Kamara get into a good rythem, I could see one of them getting close to thirty carries in a game.

Just can't see either RB getting 30 carries in a game unless injuries dictate that. With as much as we throw the ball, run jet sweeps and 8-10 runs a game by Dobbs I think any RB getting that many in a game wouldn't be likely. Can see Hurd aand Kamara getting close to equal carries a game. Jmo

Lane got 86 carries last year, so 60-70 carries to a guy that isn't an SEC caliber back is too many....

He will have 40 at best IMO

Lane was hurt most of the season so his carries were limited. But do agree. Think Kelly gets more carries than Abernathy, think he will be a special teams guy mostly unless we have injuries with Hurd or Kamara. Kelly will need those reps more than Abernathy for our RB depth moving forward. It is critical that we get at least 2 SEC RB's this upcoming class.

Neither running back IMO should have more than 20 in a game. The staff KNOWS they have to manage their carries and aren't worried about stats against the cream puffs just wins in the Big Games.

I really think we are going to be a more run heavy offense this year with our split being 60-40 run to pass in the big games. (OK, UF, Ark, UGA, Bama, USC, Mizz).

The other 5 we will pass more to practice it since we will be whoopin that ass so bad.

But in those 7 games I expect about 50 run plays a game counting QB and WR runs.

20 rushes by Jalen
15 rushes by Alvin
10 rushes by Dobbs
3 by Kelly
2 by WR's

Or something along those lines.

That will have us at 200 yards a game rushing in those games easy and we will use the run to set up the pass. Dobbs will be in the 68% completion range and have around 200 a game passing as well with about 30 attempts.

This O is about to be so damn fun to watch.

68% is what Mariota threw for last year. He throws for that I believe it will be more than 200 ypg.

I agree about the carries, they have to be careful to not overwork the RB's, especially as much as they are asked to block and catch passes. But to best the better teams on our schedule we will have to do it passing. We don't have the Oline yet to be able to run consistently on the bigger and better DLines in the conference. Teams beat Ala and Mizzou by having a lot of success passing then that loosened up the defense and were able to run some on them. But if Dobbs can't be consistent throwing the ball teams will play up and we won't be having much success running the ball. Just my opinion but I think our success will depend on Dobbs passing and that will open up our run game and short pass game. We just aren't good or big enough on the OLine to consistently open up running lanes.

Anybody want to wager the over/under on Abernathy getting 16% of the carries? I got the stone-cold lock on the under. Unless of course, Hurd and Kamara get injured then who knows what they coaches will be forced to do. We just know one thing if that happens...it will not be pretty.

I heard Dewayne Hendrix is a solid ball carrier when given the opportunity.

So you all are thinking more like this?

Main RB Carries (90% of total carriers)
1. Hurd - 45%
2. Kamara - 40%
3. Kelly - 15%
Change of Pace Carries (10% of total carries)
4. Abernathy - 80%
5. Bruce - 20%

Total Carry Breakdown (rounded some of the above numbers up/down)
1 - Hurd - 40%
2 - Kamara - 35%
3 - Kelly - 15%
4 - Abernathy - 8%
5 - Bruce 2%

If we average 30 running back carries a game (not counting QB runs or WR reverses)

Then it would breakdown like this for the regular season for the backs.

Hurd - 145 carries (12 per game)
Kamara - 125 carries (~11 per game)
Kelly - 55 carries (~5 per game)
Abernathy - 29 carries (~2-3 per game)
Bruce - 6 carries (3 in 2 games)

What to the kid from NC who indicated that he would be blueshirting? Did he sign elsewhere? Young?

that passing is only 10 yrds per completion. we will average better than that.

Abernathy is not going to get any carries. He's way too small at 161 lbs. to be an SEC RB. He'll be in the slot and on special teams returning kicks.

That's 60 carries over the course of a 12 game season.

That is significant.

Id rather see those carries go to Kelly

Not significant. any carries beyond Hurd/Kamara/Kelly will be emergency rep carries or package specific plays feeding on a matchup. It's not like you telling Abernathy to be a workhorse back. He will be return guy/ package weapon like they wanted Devrin to be if he stayed healthy. Abernathy will line up all over if he is in a game.

You are still thinking Bajakian

Think DeBord and there will be a better running game

60 carries is significant.

Fortunately for us, Abernathy won't get anywhere near that many.

Not if the Oline and vertical passing game doesn't improve. Do believe both of those will be improved. And let's face it the jury is still out on Debord but do feel he will be an upgrade as a playcaller and will help improve the oline..
