'15 NC RB Bryce Love

Kamara is also 3 years older than Love. They don't effect each other at all

I never said Kamara being a Vol has anything to do with Love. Just responding to the comment made that Love brings something to our RB position that Kamara or our other RBs do not.

The staff took Kamara and Reid. They have not taken Love.

I think you almost have to have a lot of talent stocked up at rb in the sec. It's not even an if these days in the conference of an elite rb going down every year. Look at uga and Carolina in the past few years losing their best rbs during the season. We have a lot of needs all over but a good running game is one of the best assets an offense can have. We have better talent the last few years but i'm still not convinced of the depth there

What's Love got to do with it?

Who says we are taking extra?

If we take another RB this cycle, that's an "extra" IMO. Especially when we have needs at other positions like DL, LB and CB. Another class or two before we can afford luxury picks at a position like we have at RB right now when we have Hurd, Scott, Paulk, Kamara and Reid for 2015.

At some point the staff has to trust in their evals and coach the players they have taken. Using the "they young" reasoning works for a while, but at some point it's see success or look for a new job. If you're always trying to recruit your starters for the next season, you will always struggle. 5 RBs in 2 classes is a lot of RBs. As been mentioned several times, when 2-3 RBs get the majority of the snaps in a given year, 8-10 RBs every 4 years has a lot of RBs sitting on the sideline and watching.

We may not have a big need at CB if Berry or Gaulden does well there, at least in this class.

The staff is only looking for one type of linebacker, Deberry may not even be a take.

You always take a dl and they will make room for anybody elite.

I haven't opened this thread much, just because i assumed this was a pipe dream considering the talent we have in the backfield. When I open it and see the positive direction this is heading, i can't help but shuffle like that awkward cat above^^

The injury history with our frosh backs and Kamara's potential to 'CP' the SEC, i think he certainly sees the opportunity.

I also think we see Hurd in a hybrid role anyway. I know he was in the backfield in the O&W game, but i can't help but think he's going to ALSO line up at tight end, flanked out, or even take direct snaps... he's pretty special and a physical specimen that is a mismatch everywhere you put him.

I'm not an insider by any means, but I had stated in a post about a month ago (actually it was right after Kamara committed) that if there was one back that the coaching staff would still pursue and take in this class that it would be Love. All I got were replies saying that a) there was no way we would take a 3rd back in this class, or b) names of backs that people felt were much better than Love (in their opinion) that we would much rather have. I stated that Love would add a factor that we could not turn away in this offense. Now the "experts" are saying pretty much the same thing. Not trying to blow my own horn (not flexible enough to do that anyway), but I still would really like to see us land Bryce Love in this class. I just think the kid can give us the same dynamic the Black Mamba gave the Oregon offense.
Love, Hines, or Frasier - coincidentally all from NC. Doesn't matter which we take - it's pretty clear they want to take another elite back in this class (if it's possible) and chances are Love is our best shot of the 3.

Let's not forget Kamara will only be a RS. Sophomore when he arrives next year, since he redshirted his FR year at Bama.

So 2015 looks solid to me.

Hurd. SO
Scott. SO or RS FR
Paulk. SO or RS FR
Kamara. RS SO
Reid. FR
Pickett. Walk on

Now, do we really need another RB with 5 very solid players on the roster? Personally I'd rather see the scholarship used on defense, we need DL and secondary depth more than RB.

Another factor to me, is our WR core believe it or not. Will we really need 6 scholarship RBs when we have such a stacked WR core? Think about it, how many RBs on the roster will actually get significant carries with the level of talent we have at WR? Not 6, that's for sure. IMO JMO TIFWIW

I agree. As with other positions I have mentioned choosing not to over sign in 1 class allows you to still land 1-2 quality backs in 2016. Do the same in 2017. Space the kids out on the roster and it will better set us up for long term success. I know we took 3 in 2014 but who knows if the staff would have done that had Paulk not been hurt and at least doubtful his FR year at UT. With him looking like a prime RS candidate now, 2 RBs in 2015 is plenty. Use the spot elsewhere.

Leb is right though.. Love's quote about being taking that final RB spot is puzzling. We just don't know when Butch told Love that.

Now, an even more difficult question is what happens to Reid if Love wants to commit. Personally, I really like what Reid brings to the table. In the SEC it's a nice luxury to have a back you can put in to gain 2-3 tough yards, especially late in the game when the D is tired. Then again, Love could run right around a tired D with his elite speed.

This is what makes this situation tough, and its why I'm glad I'm not making the decisions. Regardless of whether we land Love or not, there's no doubt that moving forward our RB depth is much better than it has been the past few years.

Like you, I like what Reid brings to the table. I want that guy in the huddle I know can get that 3rd and 2 or 4th and 1. I tend to think CBJ took Reid early on as he filled a need and not "insurance" like some want to claim with all of the 3*s on the commitment list. IMO Reid ends up a Vol and Love chooses to go elsewhere.

Love talked about how Rocky's style differs from his in a scout article from yesterday. Imo, he was insinuating they would compliment each other well and furthering the notion of 3 backs
