Another North Carolina prospect the Vols are still very much in on is running back Bryce Love. Love told Volquest late this week he likely wouldn't be able to make it in this weekend because of a high school 7-on-7 tournament. But, he wouldn't rule out a visit as he said he may still be able to make it. Regardless, Love said he hopes to see Tennessee again soon.

I don't see why we wouldn't take this kid if e committed. Yeah yeah yeah 6 RBs in two classes but

1. We didn't take a RB in 2013

2. Kamara will be draft eligible after one season.

3. Hurd has a history of getting dinged up and Paulk is coming off an ACL tear.

4. Transfers happen.

1. Partly why the staff took 3 in 2014 IMO. Also if you recall, it was the staff who ended up making the decision to not take a RB. Jabo was set to be a Vol.

2. IF he does leave after 1 year, you then address it by taking 2 in 2016 IF you feel you need it.

3. Hurd is 100%. Paulk was always a strong option to RS in 2014. Paulk will have had almost 2 years to heal by the time he is seeing game reps in 2015.

4. I agree transfers happen. Especially when you're planning on taking 6 RBs in 2 classes.

Well, for arguments sake lets review how many backs Saban has signed since arriving at Alabama; also interesting to note - in 2008 Alabama was actually a few spots over the NCAA mandated 85 scholarship limit. In order to make room Saban had to part ways with a couple kids, then he revoked a couple of the 1-year grant scholarship players back to non-scholarship status and also greyshirted a couple signees. Kind of goes to show you how what kind of flex you can get with the numbers (if you find yourself in the predicament we are in now or one that Saban was in when he arrived).

2007 - 3 RBs (1 was awarded a medical scholarship, 1 transferred to North Alabama his senior year, and the other RB transferred out to USF his Fr. year)
2008 - 3 RBs (1 was awarded a medical scholarship, 1 transferred his Fr. year before the start of Fall camp, and the other goes by the name of Mark Ingram Jr.)
2009 - 3 RBs (1 transferred to Nebraska after his Fr year, the other 2 are Trent Richardson and Eddie Lacy)
2010 - 2 RBs (1 transferred after his Fr. yr to Auburn, the other is still on the team)
2011 - 1 RB (He was arrested for possession and kicked off the team this year)
2012 - 2 RBs (1 is TJ Yeldon, the other is Kenyan Drake who was recently arrested - but is still on the team)
2013 - 4 RBs (all 4 were 4*s and in the Rivals 100. of the 4 Kamara is the only one no longer on the team)
2014 - 1 RB (5* Bo Scarbrough is having eligibility issues but may still have time to enroll)

Now compared to Tennessee in that same time frame;

2007 - 4 RBs/1 FB (1 turned into a LB (Vereen), Cooper the FB did not make much of an impact, Creer transferred to La Tech after his So. yr., Josh Hawkins left in 2009 I think, then Rogan was turned into a DB)
2008 - 1 RB/2 FBs (1 in Tauren Poole, Austin Johnson became a MLB, the other was Ben Bartholomew)
2009 - 3 RBs (1 in Bryce Brown who transferred to K-state in 2010, 1 in David Oku who transferred to Arkansas state in 2011, 1 in Toney Williams who transferred to Ball St in 2011 as well)
2010 - 1 RB (Raijon Neal)
2011 - 3 RBs (Marlin Lane, Devrin Young, & Tom Smith transferred to Tenn St this year.)
2012 - 2 RBs (Alden Hill was released from scholarship this spring & Quenshawn Watson gave up his scholarship, apparently college was not for him)
2013 - 1 RB (Jabo Lee DNQ, enrolled at Temple)
2014 - 3 RBs (all 3 are on campus)

I say there is absolutely no problem in taking 3 RBs in two consecutive classes, even despite our number crunch situation.

Bravo. Brief and on point.

Someone please tell me why we are worried about one of the RB's transferring? Who are you guys worried about leaving? Here's a hint, it won't be one of the guys in the top few spots on the depth chart.

One way to turn over a roster with talent is to encourage a guy who has been recruited over to transfer. It's best for both parties.

Also, we are talking about the RB position which has changed dramatically over the last few years. No longer do you see a single back get all the carries. Now you need 3 or so to carry the load.

Lebenon volunteer is so hoping we dont take Love. I mean who would want a burner that can take it to the house at any moment.

I'm not "hoping" we don't take him. IMO the scholarship could be utilized better for another position of need. The staff seems to be able to recruit RBs just fine. There are a couple good ones even instate in 2016. Give me another CB, LB, DL guy in 2015 with that 6th RB spot and I'll take my chances on getting 1-2 quality backs in 2016.

Someone posted the bama takes at RB since Saban had been there. Yup, they took a lot of backs. What they also had was ALOT of transfers because they took a lot of backs. I'd rather see us get some use out of those kids who sign vs just wasting a year or 2 getting them ready to play then watching them walk out the door to play elsewhere.

I think you're assuming that Love committing would take the spot of another DL or OL. That probably wouldn't be the case.

So you sign him in place of signing a coveted cornerback like Ordway, Butler, Martin, Abernathy or a linebacker like Quarte Sapp?

Don't be surprised when we have three RB's committed

Despite my questioning taking a third RB this cycle given our needs and slots left, I'll be excited to have a player like Love join the program and I'll gladly and blindly accept that Butch certainly knows much more who and what he needs to fill out the class than do I.
